Design FAQ
What kind of design services do you offer?
The most popular services offered are identity development, editorial design, media kit development and web design but Nubbytwiglet.com has also done work with retail design, catalogs, fashion lookbooks and apparel graphics.
What are your design rates?
For a quote, please email nubby@nubbytwiglet.com with Quote Request in the subject line and we’ll respond as soon as possible.
Where can I view your previous work?
An online portfolio of work is located here.
What kind of qualifications and experience do you have?
Besides having a B.S. in Business and Marketing and a second degree in Graphic Design, I have freelanced for a number of years at ad agencies in Portland including Nemo, North, Big Giant and Fiction as well as at Nike. Additionally, I’ve ran my design studio, Nubbytwiglet.com for five years including all aspects of that business, from design to marketing. I am well versed in not only design but production and can take your idea from an initial concept through the printing process.
What clients have you worked with?
Though I work with everyone (large, small and in-between), some more recognizable clients include: Adidas, American Eagle, Columbia University, Dr. Sketchy’s, Forever 21, Fuel TV, HP, Lucy Activewear, New Line Cinema, Nike, Salomon Snow, Skullcandy, Smith Optics, Solestruck.com, Virgin Records and The Wall Street Journal.
What is your availability?
Usually, the studio is booked one to three months in advance with current work. Please note that because of the high volume of freelance requests received, it is impossible to accept every job.
Where are you located? I am in a different city / state / country. Is this an issue?
Though Nubbytwiglet.com is located in Portland, Oregon, we’ve worked with clients remotely all over the world. Almost all client communication is done through email and is presented in PDF decks along with follow-up phone calls if needed so there’s no need for you to be in the same geographic location.
How long will my job take to complete?
Each job is completely unique, as are a client’s needs. For this reason, an exact timeline cannot be offered but on average, a new round of work is completed on a weekly basis. As an example, a logo takes an average of three rounds for a final design to be chosen and a blog design takes about the same amount of time. Once the client has made a final decision with regards to design options, the final editable files are prepped and delivered within a few days along with the invoice for payment.
Once my work is completed and paid for, do I receive full usage rights?
Yes. The client always receives full usage rights and may use the designs in any way they feel is appropriate.
Once I’ve inquired about your services, how long do I have to wait until we can begin?
If we feel that we’re a good fit, a start date will be provided. The start date is based on my current work load and is valid for that week. If you wait a week to respond and confirm that you’d like to work with Nubbytwiglet.com, the start date listed would be a week later in the timeline as well. We do our best to begin your job as soon as possible but sometimes deadlines will get pushed out. For this reason, the start date is an estimate, give or take a few days.
What exactly is included in the quoted price?
The quote provided includes more than just the development and design of a concept. Behind the scenes, extensive research is performed, additional assets are often purchased and editable / production-ready files are prepped. Once a logo and / or a corporate identity are completed, a condensed guide listing the components, various lockups and color swatches is also provided.
Is there a reason you charge a flat rate versus hourly?
Yes! Since it is impossible to determine how much time your particular job will take (it varies drastically for each project), we usually prefer to quote a flat rate. This allows the client to know upfront what their project will cost and to budget accordingly — no surprises in the end when your invoice arrives!
Once we’ve agreed to work together, how do I submit payment?
Paypal is the most convenient payment method (and can be submitted to nubby @ nubbytwiglet.com) but checks are also accepted. Please contact Nubbytwiglet.com for a current mailing address. All jobs require a 50% deposit down to begin.
What information is helpful to provide along with my project outline?
It is always wonderful to hear more about your brand / business, to receive visual inspiration that you find particularly inspiring and finally, what your business goals are (growth, ideal target market, area of focus, etc.)
If I have a more specific question about services that isn’t covered here, may I contact you?
Of course! The studio can be reached any time at nubby@nubbytwiglet.com. Cheers!
