The Typofiles #74: Hand Drawn Type on Magazines Part 2

Posted on December 7th, 2010 by by Nubby

Ever since my first mention of the subject, I just keep discovering more and more hand drawn type splashed across magazine covers and I can’t seem to get enough of it! All of The Typofiles can be viewed here.

The Typofiles #73: Interview Magazine October 2010

Posted on October 20th, 2010 by by Nubby

Month after month, I’ve been really impressed by the type throughout Interview Magazine. They’ve managed to strip editorial design down to its best elements and to let the type do the talking. All of The Typofiles can be viewed here.

The Typofiles #72: Hand Drawn Type on Magazines

Posted on October 12th, 2010 by by Nubby

Over the last year or so, I’ve noticed a huge trend towards adding hand-drawn type to fashion magazine covers — and I really love it. Are there any others that I’ve missed that you think are worth checking out? All of The Typofiles can be viewed here.

The Typofiles #71: Bloomingdale’s

Posted on October 5th, 2010 by by Nubby

Consider me obsessed with the Fall 2010 Bloomingdale’s campaign. We all get sick of the in-your-face advertisements featuring a full page close-up of the latest ‘must have’ item. This campaign breaks up that monotony and feels more engaging, almost like a back to school workbook (the graph paper is the perfect touch). All of The [...]

The Typofiles #70: Topshop

Posted on September 28th, 2010 by by Nubby

Yesterday, my Topshop order arrived and tucked the box inside was their quarterly magazine, 214. All of the pages were quite impressive but perhaps best of all was the back cover — the layout managed to be clean yet gritty, structured yet worn. I’m sold. All of The Typofiles can be viewed here.

The Typofiles #69: Maxfield

Maxfield is an upscale, slightly mysterious mini department store in LA that carries the absolute best selection of avant garde fashion. I picked up one of their business cards last week and was impressed with the very crisp, simple, minimal design. All of The Typofiles can be viewed here.

The Typofiles #68: Modern Love

I bought Interview Magazine last night at the grocery store mostly because of this page. All of The Typofiles can be viewed here.

The Typofiles #67: Odds & Ends

Posted on July 20th, 2010 by by Nubby

This is a fun one! Last night, I walked around my office and gathered up some specimens with interesting type that I had sitting around. Featured is a piece of a Mohawk Paper package, an A&G Merch business card, a Chloe tag from shoes, a page from the NOA NOA look book and a hang [...]

The Typofiles #66: W Magazine // Black Arts

Posted on July 6th, 2010 by by Nubby

This page was an intro to a W Magazine fashion spread last year — I became slightly obsessed with it at the time and had it pinned above my desk for many months. I really like the use of Helvetica paired with the op-art graphic. It’s so very reminiscent of a vintage Swiss poster design [...]

The Typofiles #65: Gaga for Elle and Senso for Solestruck

Posted on June 29th, 2010 by by Nubby

Sometimes adding type diagonally to a simple layout adds a fresh spin. I had completely forgotten about this cover that only subscribers to U.S. Elle received until last night when I was was searching for the new Rihanna cover (which also features some tilted type). In a way, it reminds me slightly of the first [...]
