Link Love: 11.19.09

• If you’re an obsessive lover of type, you must read this article. “I think sometimes that being overly type-sensitive is like an allergy,” said Michael Bierut, a partner in the Pentagram design group in New York. “My font nerdiness makes me have bad reactions to things that spoil otherwise pleasant moments.” See, you’re not alone.
• Thank you to Frugal Bon Vivant for inviting me to list the 10 things that make me happy!
• Oh Luxirare, everything you touch is transformed into something truly magical and otherworldly. This chain jacket is no exception.
• I’ve been obsessed with all things Disney since visiting Walt Disney World two weeks ago and just discovered The Best Possible Job, a blog chronicling the experiences of a cast member who worked at Disneyland in the early 1980s.
• Still on the Disney bandwagon, a blogger recounts his attendance to the premiere party for Captain E.O. at Disneyland back in 1986. It was easy for him to crack jokes about Michael Jackson…until he began dancing and signing across the screen. You can’t argue with that magic.
• If you couldn’t make it to the opening night of the Tim Burton exhibition at MoMA, Gala Darling has photos!
• Clients From Hell is a blog composed of anonymously contributed client horror stories straight from designers. Haha!
• Webdesigner Depot shares the do’s and dont’s of Photoshop retouching.
• In case you’re curious….read about the last known opium den in the world.

I love your LinkLove articles, and I love Disney World, too! I used to work in Disney World myself and while it wasn’t always a glamourous job, there were some magical moments like when I walked out past Star Tours (the Star Wars ride.) and could hear the “Ewoks” in the trees even though the park was completely empty.
I just found out that they may be bringing BACK Captain EO to Disneyland!! http://showbiz411.blogs.thr.com/michael-jacksons-captain-eo-returns-disneyland/ Can’t wait! Hope this comes true!

Oh my god - the clients from hell blog is absolutely hilarious. I’ve experienced so much of this before!!!! Especially the idea of ‘my daughter/nephew/goldfish/dog have a great idea for this logo and can you make it in microsoft word?’ Arggghh!

Did you know Captain EO is going to be rereleased to cinemas? Also it was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and produced by George Lucas. I can’t wait! :D

the clients from hell link reminded me of an oldie but goodie from ze frank:

I still think of it to this day if I am dealing with a particularly annoying client.
Also, always love love love Luxirare…she makes everything she does look paradoxically impossible but easy at the same time :-)

Someone else sent me the clients from hell link today and I had just a minute to check it out after finishing a crazy week of nonstop work and particularly hard-to-please clients. The emails from Mike the Christian on there literally made me snort from laughter all alone in my office just cracking up.

That article on type sensitivity is fantastic! I’ve read similar things about having perfect pitch - that anything even barely out of tune will sound horribly jarring and discordant. I suppose being that sensitive to type and design is like being aesthetically pitch perfect!
I just saw this and thought you’d like it:

Awesome. My cousin worked at Disneyland in the 1990’s & loved it. She was Belle, Cinderella, in the Electrical Light Parade, etc.
