Excellent read, thanks for posting this. It’s so very very true, it makes you really notice who the true outlasting brands are in the world.

I’ve been reading your blog for awhile now, Nubby. Thanks for this. It was very insightful. It’s a good look at how brands have changed over time. It used to be about the logo and the identity. I’m going to do some research to see what the brands that are named as truly charismatic are doing to keep their brand a float. I’m surprised there was no mention of “emotional branding”, when consumers have an emotional connection to a brand. Then again the would probably fall under “identity”.

I will definitely keep the “7 criteria for a stand out name” in mind from now on.
Everyone: Glad you enjoyed this, it makes me happy to hear so many of you vocalize your love of this type of content.
R. Wright: Thanks for reading. Since the actual book is so long (170 pages), I majorly skimmed through the content to pull together these 20+ pages. There’s so much more good stuff that I didn’t post!

How awesome! I’ve just started reading this book for my marketing class! It’s amazing how easily it conveys SO much vital bits of information!
April 7th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
Great post! I’m going to ask for the book for my birthday.
Alice: I only wish that I had something as good as this book for my marketing class instead of heavy textbooks that didn’t convey nearly as much awesome information…

I found this book at Powell’s a couple of years ago and I still consult it regularly. My favorite page is: 1 + 1 = 11 (the science of collaboration is nothing less than magic)

This book is amazing. It’s very to the point, but also informative enough to put things into perspective. I found that its clear simple format mobilized me more in my projects than a majority of the textbooks they made me buy in college.
Marty has another book called Zag, which is very similar but also a great reference.

NICE, FUN WELL DESIGNED, BUT… I have to say out of date and hugely missing the boat in terms of the current opportunities in brand management.
Brands exist to put a personality on a product or service - not to sell more stuff at a higher price… Those days are over, my dear Nubby.
People distrust brands because anyone would distrust a personality with those motivations…
The future opportunity is conversational and for the mutual benefit of consumer and brand. An exchange of ideas, interaction and shared value.
Sorry if I come off harshly, but let’s de-program this old school broadcasting marketing BS and get on with the brave new future of marketing…

I am completely impressed with the article I have just read. I wish the writer of nubbytwiglet.com can continue to provide so much practical information and unforgettable experience to nubbytwiglet.com readers. There is not much to tell except the following universal truth: Nice guys always finish last because they know it’s not a race. I will be back.
