New York: Making the Rounds, Drifting Through Sights & Sounds

The last few days have been a blur. I’ve experienced so many new areas of the city, but there is much more to still explore. Auntie Nubs is leaving, so I’m having a slumber party in the hotel room here in Chelsea tomorrow night! Making new friends and visiting old ones has been a blast; I forgot how much I missed everyone.

One thing I’ve learned on this trip: pack as lightly as humanly possible! After a midnight flight last week, I regretted having to drag so much luggage onto the Airtrain while in a fit of sleep deprivation!

After being here for a week, it’s been time to resume daily activities, such as waiting in lines that don’t seem to move at the post office near 1st Avenue in the East Village.

Previously, I mentioned that some apartments in the Greenwich and West Villages had ‘half addresses.’ Here’s one of my favorites. Cute, isn’t it?

There are so many beautiful churches from the 19th century dotting Manhattan. I thought these doors in particular were fabulous.

If you love casual European breakfasts, Le Pain Quotidien is amazing for tarts and baguettes baked from scratch, not to mention the homemade granola and oatmeal. There’s a handful of locations conveniently located across Manhattan.

On my birthday, I visited the Marc by Marc Jacobs store in the West Village and bought a rat keychain for a dollar. Also purchased were perfectly designed black + white striped fingerless gloves for the ridiculously cheap sum of $5.00.

While still in the West Village, Auntie Nubs picked up her custom-made necklace from Fassbinder and I noticed this baby head mounted by the entrance.

Located next door to Fassbinder, this restaurant was an elfy/ bavarian surprise. Some of the most quaint architecture is on this side of town.

I forgot to mention that I did a bunch of exploring in the Financial District on Saturday. It’s one area I’ve never spent much time in. Since the streets are hundreds of years old and not on a grid, it can be a bit tricky to navigate. I recommend waiting until the weekend to visit this area when the NYSE and Wallstreet drop to a whisper.

Things are a bit jumbled right now. I’m sorting my thoughts and potential opportunities while desperately trying to catch up on sleep.

I must second Le Pain Quotidien! I went there last summer and the food is amazing. I had lunch there and everything is organic and fabulous.

I was just talking about them today; the withdrawals I’m having are severe!
