What I Wore: The Cape Dress

All hail the cape dress.

These days, I’m all about owning a capsule wardrobe. I’m gravitating towards pieces in black, white and stripes that I can mix, match and wear constantly. My new style mantra is more wear, less waste.

With that mindset, earlier this year I invested in a cape dress. Now, I know what you’re thinking….how is this even practical? Well, let me break it down for you: this dress has made a seamless transition from meetings to photo shoots to yes, even the goth club (surprise, surprise). As a matter of fact, I wore it to Necrocomicon alongside a basement packed with vampires for my 34th birthday! It’s a look fit for any occasion, whether it’s day or night.

The cape dress a simple yet dramatic piece — the silhouette is loose and basic yet the addition of the cape ups the glamour. Best of all, it rolls up super small for easy packing.

I love, love, love this dress and best of all, it was under $100.00. Let’s face it — while I adore the Valentino version, it’s just not in my budget!

A cape is always a good idea: 1. Valentino, 2. Nasty Gal, 3. Vamp Magazine, 4. Reem Acra and 5. Nasty Gal.

While capes aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, they are a simple way to reconnect with my inner teenage goth which is still alive and well — I don’t believe in conforming or losing your sense of style, just because you get older.
