I hope you had a great week! We’ve been having an extra hot, long summer here in Portland so I’ve been escaping from the office to visit food carts and walk around a bunch of different neighborhoods. It’s always awesome to rediscover the place you call home and it’s my last hurrah of the season before heading to San Francisco, Orlando and New York in a little over a week.

These are some things I’m loving at the moment including new treasures from Darling Disctraction — more on this brilliant little store soon!

In between summer explorations, I spent a lot of time here kicking off the next issue of Rock n Roll Bride Magazine. It’s funny how that works — the issue we just wrapped isn’t even on newsstands yet but we’re already onto the next. Publishing is relentless but it also provides some of the most creative design opportunities. I’m one of those people who gets bored always doing the same thing so I’m welcoming the three-way split between branding, web design and editorial these days.

I’m still loving the new Branch business cards! Some of you have asked where to get square cards from and UPrinting.com does a great job. These are the 3 x 3 inch size.

Never, ever enough cacti!

Chubs, is that you? Haha. I love how whenever anyone spots something squirrel related, they send it my way! So cute.

Have a great weekend, friends! Also, I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your kind words on my 8th blogging anniversary post. It’s been a long road with plenty of bumps but I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s been so awesome getting to know all of you over the years. Here’s to many more! xo

Latest & Greatest #32: Palm Print

Nubby Twiglet | Palm Print

My obsession with palm print everything started during my first visit to Palm Springs in 2012. The town knew what it took to elevate a simple vacation into something special. It now holds a very special place in my heart and Joey and I are on our way back in a few weeks to renew our wedding vows!

Nothing screams vacation and relaxation like a good palm print — and there’s bound to be some wallpaper inspired by the likes of the Beverly Hills Hotel and Indochine in my future Palm Springs pad.

If you’re in the market for a palm fix of your own, these are some of my top picks — there’s a ton of variety out there to get that classic tropical vibe that’s so popular right now.

Cheers to 8 Years

Nubby Twiglet | Cheers to 8 Years

Time flies when you’re having fun!

In August of 2007, I left my Live Journal (the formative place where I’d discovered blogging in 2001) behind to start this blog.

Blogging to me had always been about sharing personal experiences and stories. It was a way to find my so-called tribe of like-minded people. It was never about making buckletloads of money or heavily pushing advertising — because when I started, those things didn’t even exist in the way they do today.

In a way, I think that was a major benefit. I had already been sharing stories online for six years before taking the leap to a more professional platform and that allowed me to keep on doing what I had been all along without any expectations of fame or fortune.

Blogging has shifted drastically over the last few years with social media platforms eating up more of our time, not to mention that of our readers. But I’ve always stuck around because blogging to me has something that is really powerful that most other platforms are missing — it allows you to share as much as you want and your posts can literally be anything you want them to be. I’ve always valued the boundless creativity blogging holds.

While blogging has changed, I still view it like this:

Social media is like a quick coffee date. You meet, introduce yourself and people get little snapshots of who you are. Blogging is like inviting someone into your living room. It’s where you go much deeper. It’s where those life-long friendships and client connections form. I can say that with certainty, too — most of my best friends to this day connected with me through this space. Clients I’ve had for 5+ years found me through this space. My whole world literally changed, thanks to this space.

And thanks to this space, I’ve had the chance to meet and connect with so many of you as I traveled with The Blogcademy. Your comments, tweets and emails mean the world to me. Thanks for sticking around through the good, the bad and the ugly (blogging wasn’t so picturesque in 2007, was it?!) A lot can happen in 8 years, that’s for sure.

One final thing — while this year has been about growing Branch, not to mention working on new personal projects, this space is in the midst of a very sleek and modern makeover and will re-launch by the end of 2015. Good things take time and I’m so excited to evolve this space, not to mention re-open an online shop of goodies.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Cheers to 8 years. I’m so glad to have you by my side. -Shauna

How was your week? I feel like this Summer has been all about transitions and taking responsibility. In between client work, I’ve been pushing hard to make some creative courses I’ve always dreamed of doing a reality and though that has meant less time for fun and relaxing over the last few months, I’m excited to finally be accomplishing things I set out to do years ago. It’s a good reminder that even if some of your dreams may be a little dusty, it’s never too late to put them into motion.

My idea of a good time: making weird still lifes. I’m still doing #stilllifefriday and it’s such a great opportunity to experiment every week with new ideas. Join in the fun!

Ahhh, the most citrusy perfect bikes ever. Spotted these in Downtown Portland!

My office has been full of flowers over the last few weeks while I work on a client project and I’ve been taking full advantage of the leftovers. Flowers for DAAAAYS.

The coolest thing I did this week: joined the #pdxmeet hosted by Portland Gear. It’s an awesome hangout sesh where you get to meet like-minded folks, most of who are into photography and art and then you visit a unique venue to practice shooting photos of your own. This time around, we got early access to the under construction Society Hotel. The history inside the building is pretty amazing.

I’m digging back into work before heading out to dinner with my dad tonight but I wanted to wish you a great weekend! xoxo
