Nubby Twiglet | The Week In Pictures: Los Angeles

Hello from beautiful Venice Beach!

I arrived on Wednesday and it’s been a whirlwind ever since, packed full of new adventures. Over the winter, I spent nearly every day including weekends in my office and was in desperate for an injection of fresh inspiration. LA has has definitely delivered! Here are some of my favorite moments so far…

Palm trees are always photogenic and so different from my Portland surroundings — these views never get old.

The rosewater lemonade from Cafe Gratitude is unreal. This is one of my favorite LA places to eat because it’s all vegan and the entire menu is written in affirmations.

One of the highlights of this week was art directing a book cover shoot on the beach. Judging by the oodles of pink flowers, you can probably guess who it was for. 😉

There’s so much natural beauty in LA that I’ve been slowing down to enjoy.

I’ve definitely taken advantage of slithering out of my winter wardrobe of black layers and into tons of brights. If you’re interested, this dress is now on mega sale!

One of the coolest spots I’ve visited during my time here is Violet Grey. It’s a beautiful little jewel box of a store featuring a tightly curated selection of beauty products sourced from around the world. They also happen to have a great magazine selection.

Alfred is a great coffee shop I came across that reminded me of home. The decor is spot on…but the best discovery was a Compartes Chocolatier in their basement!

Having the opportunity to get away from my predictable routine and explore has reminded me of how easy it is to get stuck inside a tightly wound orbit where everything is the same, day after day. There’s so much outside of your house (and the internet) just waiting to be explored — even if it’s just a coffee shop down the street that you’ve never stopped into, open your mind to the possibilities of what’s beyond the expected. Take a different route to work, stay in a different hotel, visit a new grocery store, bar or boutique. You never know who you might meet or what you’ll discover.

This week has a lot of beautiful shots :>
I like how you do so much together with Gala (and Kat). It’s not possible to follow one of you and not know the others haha.
Also, the dress looks really good on you!

  2. Love this! Such beautiful photos as always :) I completely agree with you about stepping into new surroundings. It definitely helps to refuel the inspiration tank but we so easily get stuck in the same place! One of my resolutions this year is to try working in a new coffee shop each month – like you say, you never know!

That’s a great place to start — I found my new favorite coffee shop, Good Coffee late last year by breaking out of my regular routine!

Oh I love these pictures. The old mercedes, the beautiful flowers combined with that bright yellow nailpolish and I’ve never heard of rosewater lemonade before. Looks sooo delicious.

    Thanks for the inspiration :)

Seeing these pics makes me wanna jump on a plane and get to Venice right away. Have to wait a few months though, but I’m heading to Venice in summer and that makes me so happy! I’ll definitely try the rosewater lemonade!

Awesome, I’m so glad to hear that you’ll get a chance to visit! This is my second time staying in the area and it’s a really fun spot to explore, not to mention super walkable.

Sometime when you are in LA, you ought to check out the Getty Museum. From a design perspective, it’s beautiful. I’ve never been that impressed by the art (just not my taste), but the building and the gardens are well-worth it. Just breathtaking.

I wish we’d had time to do this! I’ve heard the same thing about the grounds and hope to stop in on my next trip. Thanks for the suggestion!
