My Game Changing, All-In-One Camera: The Sony NEX-5N

Nubby Twiglet | My Game Changing, All-In-One Camera: The Sony NEX-5N

Though I’m a long ways from being a professional photographer, I do take a lot of photos and I’m notoriously picky when it comes to cameras.

Because of this, I held onto my trusty Nikon D40 for close to five years because I couldn’t find anything I liked better. Then, I discovered the Sony NEX-5N and it was love at first snap. For the last four months, nearly every photo featured on this blog was taken with the Sony. It does everything I need and it’s super duper compact — I carry it in my purse everywhere, every single day with absolutely no chance of back pain creeping up.

Here’s a quick list of pros on why this camera rules:

• It has the performance level of a legit DSLR but is about half the size and weight.

• Unlike a lot of smaller cameras on the market, this one has interchangeable lenses.

• The photos are 16.1 megapixels! Damnnnn. Even when you zoom in and crop, they still look sharp.

• It can record full HD video. Remember the Canada video? It was all shot on this camera by Gala, who owns the same exact model.

• There’s also a tiltable 3 inch LCD screen attached to the back — this makes it possible to frame light and low angle shots that would otherwise be tricky to nail.

Honestly, there are just too many incredible features to cover here. Scroll down and check out this list
to see even more of what this camera has to offer. Even though I’ve had this camera for a few months, I held out and waited to review it to see how I liked it after using on a near daily basis and I’d still give it a thumbs up.

Bottom line: If you’re looking for a solid camera for everyday shooting with DSLR quality in a compact, travel friendly body, I think you’ll love this camera as much as I do.

Tools Of The Trade #18: What WordPress Theme Is That?

Nubby Twiglet | Tools Of The Trade: What WordPress Theme Is That?

As a designer, when I land on a cool new blog and fall in love with the design, I’m often curious: is it built from scratch or is it a theme?

When Star was in town for a Branch meeting a few months back, I mentioned how much I liked a particular site and wanted to design something similar for a project. I couldn’t tell if it was based off a theme or not. Right then, she pulled up What WordPress Theme Is That? and answered my question. Within seconds, I’d located the theme.

Even better, What WordPress Theme Is That? not only detects what theme is being used but also what particular plugins the site is using. What a timesaver!

Dress Up Your Desk With Poppin’s New Colors Of Office Supplies

Nubby Twiglet | Poppin Office Supplies In Mint

It’s no secret that I am completely obsessed with office supplies. Considering how much time I spend sitting at my desk, I want my surroundings to look good.

I’m a big fan of Poppin’s shop by color feature which allows you to browse office supplies based on hue. I’ve been happily sporting their yellow setup for the last year in my office space and after using it nearly every day, I can honestly say that while their stuff looks good, it’s also completely functional and solid.

As much as I’ve loved my yellow set, I was itching for a change so when Poppin let me know they were launching some new colors soon including mint and gray (very The Blogcademy appropriate, don’t you think?!) I was the first in line.

My favorite Poppin items are their Signature Ballpoint Pens. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll notice that they make it into nearly every still life shot because they work great and add the perfect dash of color.

I don’t know about you but taking the time and care to dress up my workspace has made a world of difference when it comes to staying motivated. Poppin’s colorful accessories work as well as they look and I’m so excited to try out these new colors.

P.S. If mint and gray don’t float your boat, navy and coral are also making a debut. I can’t wait to see someone rock a desk setup in coral!

The Week In Pictures: 7.18.14 | Hello From London!

Nubby Twiglet | The Week In Pictures London

Hello from London! I have spent the week staying in the attic of a 1930’s English manor with a massive back yard and garden. The weather has been absolutely beautiful. By day, I’ve been filming videos and by night, enjoying lively dinners with friends.

I just finished filming a new Blogcademy Home School video all about still lifes. That meant packing up piles of ephemera to haul across the ocean. Haha. I’m really happy with how this module came together and will let you know when it’s available!

Filming gets easier every time around. My backdrop this time around was a tangled mix of greenery that felt like it went on forever.

Our nights have been spent here with good wine and great friends, telling embarrassing stories and laughing until we’re crying. Just the way I like it!

I’m pretty excited to be checking out Gala’s Radical Self Love Salon this afternoon. My studio, Branch did the branding and this is her third-ever event. With that, I’m off to repack my suitcase and then heading off to a new place in Central London to teach the first of two workshops starting tomorrow morning.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
