FIDM Interview: A Peek Inside My Design Career

Nubby Twiglet | FIDM Interview

I normally don’t dedicate posts to interviews I’ve done but I wanted to give the FIDM crew a shout-out for reaching out and interviewing me. They’ve been a gracious bunch and writer Sara Berkes really went out of her way to ask me an interesting mix of questions.

The interview covers my early days of design, my best client moments and much more. My week in LA has been charmed so far and this is the ultimate cherry on top. Thanks again, FIDM!

Thea: It’s a balancing act but a big part of what I do is having an incredibly patient family and husband who let me do my thing and don’t guilt-trip me if plans have to change. For me, the support system around me is the key factor. :)

Shauna, this is a great interview; very inspiring to design students like me! I’m really looking forward to seeing where your businesses take you in the future.

Thank you so much for sharing all of your great insight with us, Shauna! You have such a multi-faceted set of skills and we think our students and grads (whether entry level or industry pros) can probably relate to your story. Thanks again!

I went to FIDM, and I actually have been reading your blog since I started there back in ’07 for the digital media program. You have been a great inspiration and continue to be. I also found gala darling through you so thanks, for everything :)

Thanks so much for sharing Shauna! I also did the whole ‘practical’ business degree and worked in the corporate world until I was 26, the whole while feeling unfulfilled. And then I had the same thought as you – “Life is too short!!!” So I went back and studied design – it’s been 4 years since I started working as a designer and I’ve never looked back! Although I’ve always felt like I’m ‘too old’ and a bit behind since I had a later start than most designers, you’ve really inspired me, seeing how amazing your work is and knowing we’ve been on the same path!
