Since last week’s recap, Kat, Gala and I have been all over the place! We left Brisbane for Melbourne on Monday, taught our workshop over Wednesday and Thursday and then flew to Auckland on Friday to teach another workshop this Saturday and Sunday. We’ll then be moving onto Wellington on Sunday night — I’m so excited to explore more of New Zealand.
One of the coolest after-hours experiences we had was at Alfred & Constance which featured an eccentric tiki bar with rad surf-inspired posters.
At the base of the complex was a cafe with black walls, skeletons, curio cabinets stuffed with oddities and some of the best tunes around. My type of hangout!
Our Brisbane class had amazing energy. And, Bite Me Cupcakes & Treats delivered this perfectly branded spread of cupcakes!
I was sad to leave Brisbane but once we arrived in Melbourne, we hit the ground running. Within 10 minutes of dropping our bags off at our hotel, we were weaving through side alleys stuffed with independent boutiques and cafes. Gala lived in Melbourne years ago which made her the perfect tour guide for this leg of our trip!
I’d heard that Melbourne was full of rad coffee shops and was blown away by the branding a lot of them had. My absolute favorite though was Cafe Vue which featured black and white geometric tiled walls and newspaper-inspired coffee cups!
Wednesday morning was a big day — ABC News had contacted The Blogcademy the week before about filming our Melbourne class for a segment about bloggers. I’d never been on national TV before so I woke up hours early feeling super nervous. Luckily, the interview happened so quickly that I didn’t have time to wallow in my fear and just rolled with their questions. We raced home after class to watch our segment and email all our families about it back home. So surreal!
My favorite place to dine in Melbourne by far was Cookie. Yes, Cookie. It’s an intriguing place featuring massive wall murals, an asian-inspired menu, stacks of vintage records on the walls, children’s books stacked in every crevice and a full bar!
Cookie’s weird decor was off the hook and so was their food.
One of my favorite Blogcademy looks of our voyage down under was this one which I called Baroque Bunny. I wore a Forever 21 dress (that matches the curtains in my house!), a Zara necklace and Crown and Glory Liberace ears.
Yesterday morning, we hopped a flight from Melbourne to Auckland and I loved this wall mural at the airport. I’m gearing up to teach The Blogcademy Auckland for the next two days so I’m signing off — have an amazing weekend, everyone! xo
