man. that jezebel article about the crazy real estate market in SF certainly rings true. i miss SF terribly. but, i always remind myself that my home mortgage in this beautiful southern oregon neighborhood is only a third of my rent in the bay area. the prospect of home ownership in sf is pretty dire. i mean, when i left, a mold and termite infested tear-down in the worst part of town cost half a million. go figure.

katrina: It blows my mind with how expensive it is there. I’m in the center of Portland in a big old house and my monthly mortgage wouldn’t even get me a studio apartment there. Crazy! You made the right decision to settle into a place you can call your own!

Holy Moly! That SF article really made me appreciate the housing market here in Houston. I could get one of those homes for Half a mil for at most $100,000!!! Now I need to stop complaining!

    • Shauna says:

Melinda: Totally!!! Portland has gotten a lot more expensive over the last few years and then when I see SF prices, I think we’ve got bargain prices here. So warped!
