What I Wore: 8.11.13 | Zipper Hips

Zipper Hips

On Saturday, Joey, Rocky and I took off for our annual trip to the Oregon Coast and I packed a dress I’d been obsessed with since the spring, a futuristic neoprene number from the Nasty Gal Collection. I’d worn it once before in New York a few months earlier but in my mind, it belonged on the beach. With that in mind, we awoke early before the crowds hit and walked along the windy shoreline of Cannon Beach.

Zipper Hips

With large zippers cutting through the exaggerated hips, I was first drawn to the cut because it reminded me of this jacket. And because of it, I’ve dubbed this look Rick Owens goes to the beach.

I wore:

Light Curve Dress, Nasty Gal Collection
Sneaker wedges, Lacoste
Nail polish, Pop Nail Glam in 8 (orange)

Getting out of the city was just what I needed (even if it was only for a day) and I have many more photos to share with you on Friday. I hope your week is off to a great start!

The Typofiles #127: Peeking Inside J. Crew’s August Style Guide

The Typofiles

Every few months, J. Crew’s Style Guide lands on my doorstep and I always find myself drawn in. Occasionally, it’s because of the clothes but more often than not, it’s because of their choice in color palettes, styling and type. There’s a certain quiet confidence that comes through in the simplicity of their layouts that I really admire.

And while we can all agree that junk mail is super annoying, I do always look forward to getting new catalogs in the mail — you can sign up for the Style Guide here and if you’re looking for more options, this post lists some more of my favorites, all free.

Speaking of J. Crew, have you seen their site lately? I’m loving the way they’ve modified the best design elements of their catalog for the web. It’s fun, fresh and while it has a definite print design influence, it veers from being too fussy.
