Another week down! How was yours? Last month when I visited Ampersand, I picked up this great design magazine called Graphic and they completely change the format every issue. The one I got is completely composed of posters and I was really drawn to this one simply reading P O S I T I V E. And my leafy desktop is from the Dress Your Tech column on Designlovefest. Very Spring-y!
Last night I went out with Latanya of Sprinkles and Booze (she says the name came to her in a dream!) who I met at the first Blogcademy in New York last year. She’s been visiting Portland for the last month and it was about time we met up — when we weren’t talking about blogging, we were talking about Portland and it reminded me of how lucky I am to live in such a chill, accessible, progressive place where anything goes.
My dad brought over a bag of random stuff and when I started digging through, I froze when I got to these little scissors. I’m left-handed and I remember them well, from the age of 4 onwards. I used those scissors constantly (I don’t know if schools cater to left-handers more now, but in the 80s they just didn’t.) I can’t even comprehend how many art projects I made using them but all that time cutting things out paid off since I went onto do a lot of collage-based art shows.
I spend a lot of time at my desk so I’m pretty particular about my surroundings. I love having bright accessories (mine are from Poppin) and stacks of the latest catalogs (dying over everything J. Crew right now). And the mini ampersand necklace is by Karen Kavett.
I’ve been testing out a lot of different poster layouts this week for a series I’m putting together for The Blogcademy and as soon as they show up, I’ll be reviewing the quality if you’d like to print up some of your own designs! How cool would that be?
We’ve been in overdrive this week getting everything ready for Portland and LA and hit a major snag when we found out our LA venue had been double-booked! Full-on panic ensued and then, we found this place which is downright amazing. Serious personality there! It was a good reminder to me that change, no matter how scary and last-minute it feels, is sometimes for the best (though it doesn’t feel like that in the moment!)
Have a great weekend, everyone! We’re in total remodeling mode over here and it feels great to see our house finally looking the way I imagined it for so long (I’m lucky that Joey’s quite the handyman). Progress. Slowly but surely. xo
