Instant Gratification

Fuji Instax Instant Gratification

It all began when I was in Santa Monica with Made U Look earlier this year. They did a shoot with a collection of vintage cameras and when I saw the outcomes from one of their Polaroids, it made me miss mine. Over my last few trips with Gala, she’s packed along her Fuji Instax (I like the Instax because the film is widely available)but every time I thought about getting one, I reminded myself that I was already carrying my iPhone and Nikon D40 everywhere in my purse…how many cameras did I really need to lug around?!

Well, that spark of the instant photo gratification struck again when I was at The Ace Palm Springs last month — the lobby had a photo booth and I went overboard putting it to use with some Design Life friends. I was still missing the aspect of having photos I could hold.

Over the weekend, I finally picked up an Instax for my New York trip. It’s been years since I’ve had an instant camera and I can’t wait to put it to use. Do any of you have one? What do you think?

I personally have one and think instaxs are wonderful!! I agree that there is something gratifying when holding a picture that isn’t totally digital and slightly flawed. The imperfections of the images sometimes gives it more character.

I’m glad you got one!~ There also many types of Polaroid films now in different arrays of color instead of just white!~

I have an old-school Polaroid camera, and I love it. The uncertainty of trying to compose your shot, the noise as it spits out the photo, then holding your breath and watching the image slowly appear out of the murky depths… It’s magic. There is definitely something special about having a tangible memory of something; being able to hold it in your hand, stick it on a wall, or in a notebook, look at it and think: “That was a good day”. I wish that Polaroid film wasn’t so expensive, but it does make you appreciate each and every picture when you know how much they cost!

I hope that you and your new camera capture lots of happy memories together :)

Miki: I used to have a Polaroid but then In the mid-2000s I remember the film becoming harder to find. After awhile, I didn’t see the film in most of the places I shopped any longer. I’m liking what Impossible Project is doing these days now!

Gala: You were way ahead of the game on this one….I should have bought one sooner. I still think back about all those great Paris and Reykjavik photos you took. THe have such a great nostalgic feel.

I have exactly like this one! I love it to bits~!! Yes, some hits and misses; but instant photos sounds so FUN and it’s FUN especially when you are around those you love.

I just bought accessories to pimp up my Instax~ and the films. Have you seen all the beautiful films? I’ve ordered the Pandora. Can’t wait to snap pictures~

Ah, Blogcademy!! How I wish I could join them! Have fun all!

Not going to lie, seeing Emma’s Instax in Palm Springs made me want one so bad!!! It looks like so much fun!! Definitely think I’ll be getting one soon. Can’t wait to see the outcome from your New York trip :)

I dolove my instant camera, I use it to take a photo of myself and a photo of another person and use it to exchange phone numbers/facebook, etc when I am backpacking and meet fellow travelers I want to keep in touch with. Its a unique way to do it that also gives them a souvenir of you. After a trip you go “yeah this guy i met in vienna, and this girl was my roomate …”

BUT I think its just a trend now. people keep rediscovering stuff thats been there for a long while…

I have this same Instax camera and love it. The only reason I don’t use it as much as I would like is because the film adds up ($$).

    Happy shooting!!

It’s cute, but the flash ALWAYS fires and the lens is super wide, which is a blessing and a curse! I miss shooting Polaroid 600 but the Instax fills the hole. :-)
