Rock n Roll Bride Magazine: Issue 02

rock n roll bride magazine issue 02

I am so happy to announce that the biggest project I’ve ever done on my own to date, Issue 2 of Rock n Roll Bride Magazine, is finally here and available for sale! It was a labor of love and a whole lot of work creating 82 pages of ad-free rock n roll wedding goodness but I couldn’t be more proud of the outcome (and of Kat & Gareth for sticking it out with me through more rounds of revisions than I can count.) Delivering the first round of proofs to Kat in person when we met in Vegas back in February was only the beginning — I always say that I love a good challenge and this was definitely a challenge for all of us!

I’ll be talking more about the research, design and production process soon but in the meantime, pick up your issue while they’re still available!

*Special thanks to Rock n Roll Bride for the photos.

Kat – RocknRollBride: I am so proud of you for sticking with me through the sometimes grueling process, for pushing the content further and most of all, for constantly working hard at doing what you love. Glad to call you a friend, glad to have you as a client. Issue 3, here we come!!

  2. Kalosine says:

Thought I’d delurk Nubby and tell you that the magazine looks amazing. Already ordered a copy. Congratulations to both you and Kat. It looks like quite the undertaking! Looking forward to reading your post on the process. I’d like to publish an ad free magazine some day too.

Kalosine: Awesome, glad to hear you got one! It was a completely immersive process but coming out on the other side, I appreciate it that much more and can only hope it resonates with Rock n Roll Bride fans as well. And you can do it!! This is the best time to self publish because you can test your concept with on-demand publishing before taking the plunge like Kat has done (50 boxes have taken over her living room!!)

  3. Sigsy says:

    Hey Gorgeous,

Would you be willing to post me one to Tokyo?
If you let me know the price for P&P and the mag, I’ll Paypal you.

Infact how much would two be? (I want to give away one as a raffle prize at the next monthly meeting of my For Empowering Women’s networking group in Tokyo in September)

Thanks – could you email me if you’re able to do this?
Love your work and my old family friend and all round gorgeous human being, Jonny Draper is a regular contributor to your site. I got him to shoot my family for my Mum and Dad’s 40th wedding anniversary, just as he was starting out! That’s not how I got to you – that was through Gala and Nubby. Go Britpreneurs!

    Much obliged,
    Sarah

  4. Sigsy says:

    Oh – I am silly.

First, I thought I was on Kat’s blog (doh)

Second I just clicked through and discovered that I can order it online, really easily with free ww shipping (DOH).

    Oops!

  5. Medusa says:

I bought the 1st issue & I’d really like to get the 2nd one, but US$24.00 seems a bit much for me for a magazine … IIRC the 1st issue was a lot less expensive. Ack! So torn.

    • Nubby says:

Medusa: Thanks for your honest feedback! Just to be clear, the first and second issues are like comparing apples to oranges. Whereas the first issue was printed on much lower quality paper and used as a promo piece (I believe Kat only charge for shipping on that one) this newest issue is a full-blown magazine with high quality paper stock, a spine and a thick glossy cover. We also spent months developing a lot of original content with a full redesign from cover to cover. The exchange rate does make it much more pricy than the first issue but at over double the number of pages and a huge shift in quality both in the design and production, I think you’ll really enjoy it.

Hey lady!!! So proud of you on your magazine! Remember when I sent you that font, I was just getting that magazine gig? I just finished my whole 100 page magazine and sent it to print :)

What a task! All design and creative direction was done by me, tedious but SO worth it to have a tangible piece that had my significant touch on it. Us Portland girls can handle it all!!!! Hope I get my hands on R&RB magazine soon.

    • Nubby says:

Stefi Mar: I definitely remember. I remember that email quite well and it sounds like you totally faced that job head-on and owned it! Editorial design is much harder than a lot of people realize and between the creative direction, layouts and production, I know how trying it can be. CONGRATULATIONS! You made it happen!
