Over the last few months, I’ve made a few updates to my office and thought it was about time I shared it in its current state. When I’m home, I spend the most time in my office and to me, it’s important to have a personal space, no matter how small, that is all your own and reflects your style. At points in my life, I had upwards of five roommates but even then, I made a space that I could escape to — I know that not everyone has the luxury of having an extra room but even if it’s the corner of your bedroom, I believe we all need that special, designated space to be creative in.

The most recent updates I’ve made to the space involve switching out my gray rug for a chevron stripe version and trading black transparent curtains for solid white ones. Something about the space always felt a bit off and I think it had to do with my rug being too small for the room (it only covered half) and even though the curtains let a lot of light in, they were still black which didn’t feel very inviting.

I switch out items on the shelf above my desk but usually keep a favorite pair or two of shoes up there — to me, they’re like fine art, mini sculptures in a way. My desk has a lot of stuff on it but there’s still plenty of room to work. A lot of people ask about the TV and alarm clock and I’ve had both for about 10 years now — they were part of a limited edition collection by Magnavox by Target. The TV needs a converter box and only gets about 4 channels but that’s okay since I barely watch it.

At the end of last year, I upgraded to a Wacom tablet but also got a mouse because I’m left-handed. I was taught to use a mouse right-handed in school…but am NOT a pro handwriting with my right. I am still trying to figure out the best setup but haven’t had much time to experiment. For the record, I love my Wacom and highly recommend it because it allows for so much more experimentation (a link to the model I own is below).

To me, my surroundings, personal style and design are all pieces that fit together into one big puzzle. I try not to separate anything I do and because of this, keep style-related items I admire sitting out throughout the room. My iPad is always on my desk now because I keep all my to-do lists in it.

The Antigirl Love Life Print was a semi-recent addition and makes me so happy. I have almost all of Tiphanie’s prints from over the years and am a huge fan of her work.

I’m not a huge fan of taxidermy but my brother found this vintage deer at a thrift store for a total steal. I have had a set of flat files in my office now for a few years and am desperate to get another to house all the campaigns and client work I have stacked up in our hallway closet.

I wanted another chair in my office that didn’t feel too heavy or take up too much space. I’m not very label-conscious when it comes to furniture and found this Louis Ghost knock-off on Ebay. It works perfectly fine for this space.

Personal mementos and my magnetic bulletin board.

Here’s a close-up of my new rug. It was actually a mis-order on my part but there were no returns allowed. I’ve slowly grown to love it, though it sheds like crazy. Thick pure wool rugs will do that to you…in the meantime, my vacuum cleaner is getting a serious workout! Everyone around me is sick of my constant talk of rugs and if it keeps up, I’m going to film The Big Lebowski 2.

Last but not least, my favorite office companion, Rocky makes this space even better. As always, this space is a work in progress (my new curtains still need to be hemmed!) but it works for me and I’m thankful to have a room of my own. On another note, I’m constantly on the lookout for house and interior inspiration and have a pinboard here.
