The Typofiles #106: Esquire Big Black Book

There are two men-centric magazines I pick up on a regular basis: GQ and Esquire. Both are beautifully designed and last night, when I spotted the Esquire Big Black Book at Barnes & Noble, I had to have it. The matte, bright blue cover features raised, high-gloss white ink and the inside is a mix of smooth, shiny stock and newsprint. The type treatments and layouts throughout the magazine are thoughtful yet understated and this overall is a great piece of print inspiration.

An extra bonus: check out the Esquire cover archive, dating back to 1933! My favorite Esquire era was in the 60s — many of the covers from this time were directed by my advertising idol, George Lois.
