I am a big fan of mixing high and low when it comes to fashion and furniture. While I’ve always admired the Philippe Starck Victoria Ghost chairs, the $300+ cost wasn’t in my budget so I turned to Ebay to get a similar look. For items I use every day like my office chair, I tend to step up and buy the best. My Herman Miller Aeron chair was worth every penny but for a secondary chair that’s more for decoration and less for function (right now it’s holding my stack of portfolios), a reproduction suits my needs just fine. I feel the same way about clothing — I want the jackets, bags and shoes that I reach for every day to be of nice quality but I tend to fill in the gaps in my wardrobe with more affordable basics. Style doesn’t have a predetermined price tag; it’s about mixing a combination of finds together to create a look that suits your style and budget.

I’ve been hearing about the new Schoolhouse Electric factory and retail location in the industrial area of S.E. Portland for awhile now and my brother and I decided to pay it a visit over the weekend.

The factory and storefront are housed in a 101 year old building (the original home of Pacific Steel & Hardware Co.) that’s been lovingly restored. Read more about the transformation here.
