On Thursday night, my friend Amelia Arsenic and her band Angelspit made a tour stop in Portland at The Hawthorne Theater. It was an all-ages show so I was in a sea of 16 year olds (probably for the first time since I was 16). Angelspit always gives it their all and afterwards, we caught up in the bar next door which just happened to be hosting a karaoke night. Amelia (who lives in London) got to experience a full-on Portlandia-style moment when a guy with dreads, sporting a pink suit gave a stunning performance of Alanis Morissette’s You Oughta Know, even jumping up on chairs. That was followed up by two hippies doing a spot-on performance of Straight Outta Compton.

I am a huge fan of architecture firm Skylab and when I heard that they’d designed Solestruck’s new flagship store downtown, I had to see it for myself. I took my whole family to the grand opening Saturday night (including my dad) and the place was packed. My photos don’t do the space justice at all. If you’re passing through Portland, this is a must-see.

I’m not a big perfume person, but this week I discovered Tokyo Milk. The smells are different from everything else out there — I picked up Tainted Love which is a combination of dark vanilla bean, orchid, white tea and sandalwood and have been wearing it nonstop since.

Just hanging out in front of a bar called The Trap (seriously) in my hood over the weekend. I can’t stop laughing when I hear of people compulsively gambling there…really?!! The name says it all. Have a great weekend!

banshee: I think they have a lot of Australian fans which is awesome! The shoes I’m wearing in the first photo are from AF Vandevorst from a few years ago. If you search for them in my archives, you can see some close-ups of the shoes and box they came in. :)

I love how the typography on the fragrance matches your minimalistic design approach. It really matches your personality!

And that Solestruck space looks like a space lounge. I’m in love with it!

    Have a great weekend, too!

    Mae Lu @ thereafterish.!

Mae Lu: Very tue. And the scent…is like something very different from what I’ve ever smelled before. There’s a sense of mystery about the packaging which I love. If you’re ever in town, Solestruck is like the perfect spaceship to visit…that just happens to be stocked with shoes!

call me lame, but I immediately had to buy that TOKYOMILK perfume. I barely ever purchase new scents (and never without smelling them first) but this was too. damn. enticing.

ZEOLITE: I’m pretty picky and usually just wear Vanillary by LUSH but this was something very complex yet inviting at the same time. I think you’ll love it. Let me know what you think!

  3. Raye says:

Where in PDX did you find the perfume? I started looking around but so far the places they list on their site don’t seem to have it anymore.

  4. My local comic & art place sells TokyoMilk, but, mostly from the cakey-smelly line and that stuff just doesn’t work on me, so thanks for pointing out they have a darker, femme fatale line! I hope they stock that too, I’m def going to have to check, I want to smell the “Everything and Nothing” so bad now!!

  5. D says:

I just recently found Tokyo Milk too, and I love it! I wear the “honey and the moon” scent. I’m not normally a perfume gal either, but I couldn’t resist! Great pictures.
