Judging A Magazine By Its Cover: My Fashion Faves

They say that you should never judge a book by its cover. On the other hand, fashion magazines pride themselves on having an astute sense of style and a fine-tuned eye for daring patterns and color combinations. In fashion magazines, image is everything and nothing sums up the complete package better than the cover.

Fashion magazines that I’m currently subscribed to include Elle, Marie Claire, Vogue, Bazaar, W and Allure. I also buy V regularly. What should I pick up next?

Ohmygosh, how could you forget “W”??? Also, the Harper’s Bazaar Espania cover is stunning…swoon! When is the first issue of your magazine going to hit the stands? :)

Definitely second the nomination for Lula magazine. It’s gorgeous. Also, Nylon magazine is great for street style and especially for music recommendations – it’s not high fashion, but definitely fun and different.

  3. I always, always, always melt at the sight of Russh’s covers. They just manage to get IT every single time. Their cover girls set the theme for an entire issue, embodying a particular essence like daisy fresh, or otherworldy beauty, so you’re taken on this aesthetic journey right from the very first page to the close of the magazine. Lula also has beautiful covers, and I love that they don’t have any headlines so the magazine is kind of a mystery.

I can’t stop looking at that Chinese Vogue cover! The balance of white, yellow and black is stunning but the brilliance is in the placement of her head over the logo. That’s a designer I wanna work with! I feel like this sort of detail is so overlooked (ie. flair) and yet so very important. That Rosie Elle is great too. Awesome post!

Anna: I saw Makeup Store at Barnes and Noble a long time ago…..but never bought it. I’ll have to check it out again!

Kazz: I have older issues of Lula but haven’t picked up a copy in about a year. Thanks for reminding me!

OMIOMI: LOVE! Thanks for sharing – I loved it so much I included it in this week’s Link Love!

Cloverdew: I read NYLON in its early days and have held onto some of my issues that are 5+ years old but these days it feels too commercialized. Since I just got two recommendations here, maybe I should give it another shot though!

Camilla Peffer: I need to find somewhere locally that carries Russh….have always loved the covers and definitely want to check it out.

I know this is a relatively old post now, but I definitely have to recommend Zoo Magazine (www.zoomagazine.com), from Germany. I’m subscribed and I find both the numerous fashion shoots and the articles both inspiring and interesting.
