Fashion Notebook #65: Orange Crush

Orange and citrus tones are not usually my favorite colors but I admire their punchiness. No apologies, they’re bold and mean business.

When I share some of these collages, they bring back so many memories — some of these pages were probably started 10 years ago. The oversized notebook containing upwards of 50 pages is now tattered but still grows by the month as a flood of new magazines arrive on my doorstep.

I think I mentioned this before but the reason I started the Fashion Notebook was because as a teenager, my stacks of magazines were out of control. I needed a controlled way to organize all of my favorite fashion imagery. As the books filled up, themes became apparent as I began grouping images by color and pattern. To me, each page is like a mini mood board, always growing as new clippings are layered. I love the idea of it being a constant work in progress.

I have one as well! I started my magazine collection when my aunt purchased me a subscription of 17 for my 13th birthday. I kept every single one until my Quince when I got a scrapbook, then I started cutting out images I want and been pasting them in. Its fun to see how I’ve progressed, mine isn’t as neatly organized as yours, pictures are pasted wherever they fit and sometimes over things that I no longer have a strong desire to see anymore. I’m now 24 and are still pasting in my book, at least now the images are from Vogue and anything else I get my hands on.

This is fabulous. I really need to start doing this myself! I’ve got stacks of magazines and I love collaging, so why do I keep procrastinating? I’m going to go have a look at the whole set on Flickr, I have a feeling I’ll be swooning!

Is the illustration in the lower right hand Gruau? Definitely looks like his style.

    xx shabby
