I couldn’t believe that these showed up on my doorstep. • Decided that it was time for black nails…the love affair is back! • Had a super inspiring talk with a client that covered all of our favorite online fashion boutiques • On Friday night, Joey whipped up homemade pad thai for dinner (have I mentioned that I loathe cooking and he has dinner ready almost every night when I get home?!) • Rendered graphics onto kiosks and trucks (don’t ask). • Realized that every time I turn on the TV, nothing’s on and I end up watching Dr. Oz. • Booked the cutest ever Parisian hotel with Gala for our upcoming Virgos Onlyâ„¢ trip. • Ordered two pairs of elf shoes for an upcoming shoot (once again, don’t ask) • Tried to design a St. Paddy’s Day poster for a client and failed miserably — beer and leprechauns just aren’t my thing! • Remembered how much I love Star; she always messages me, telling me about the next big thing in blogging & web design. • Felt inspired to start my massive portfolio update • Listened to Thriller • Scrubbed three floors in one night. • And, here I am and it’s Saturday.

I can’t quite believe that I have a pair of Finsk 252-98 shoes on my feet right now. Last week, Solestruck sent me a message, offering me a pair of my choice as a thank you for our continued work together and I literally leapt out of my chair, ran into Joey’s studio, spun around three times and jumped in the air. He probably thought I was possessed my the devil (that wouldn’t be a huge surprise). But, I was actually possessed by shoes (also not a huge surprise). Before I could snap my fingers, they were waiting on my doorstep. The one brand that always felt like a distant, out of reach love is now in my hands. Thank you, Solestruck!! Wow. Just wow.

It’s a bit mid boggling that I’m 29 years old and have extensively traveled the country but have never made it to Europe! To celebrate my upcoming voyage with Gala, I invested in a very special passport holder. Pantone, of course. One month away! I am so excited.

A little face paint never hurt anyone.

My nails always always always used to be black. Then, with my black hair and mostly black wardrobe, I decided that I needed to lighten things up a bit. So, red, white, mint green and silver all took its place. Old habits die hard, though. After a year hiatus, black is definitely back.

Much love to you! See you Monday! Time to do freelance, clean and go couch shopping!

Link Love: 1.13.11

link love

Kate Moss by Craig McDean.

• I enjoyed reading a more in-depth explanation of the new Starbucks branding. Good stuff.

• This actually exists! The Penguin Classics Complete Library contains nearly every Penguin Classics book ever published and is available on Amazon for….$13,413.30. Oh, and the collection weighs about 700 pounds.

• How to get paid what you’re worth.

• Gala is obsessed with Pinterest and it sounds pretty cool — it’s a site that allows you to catalog things you love into the equivalent of digital inspiration boards!

• Over at Cary Tennis: My family hates me and I’m 25…and I’ve wasted my life!

• I am totally loving this Aphrodite USB hub.

• The top 10 craziest moments in body image in 2010. (via already pretty)

• I love mid-century modern chairs, don’t you?

• How to get 80+ comments on your next blog post.

• Luxurare wanted a uniform of sorts to make getting dressed for every weekday a cinch. Well, of course she outdid herself and designed her own collection. Wow.

• One of my guilty blog pleasures: Shoelust keeps me up to date on what’s cool and new with footwear!

• Do you need to do a shopping detox? Do you think you could you make it an entire month?

Dolce Vita Jade Ads for Solestruck.com

Shooting these shoes turned into a makeshift adventure. First, I got stuck in rush hour traffic trying to pick up the box of samples from the Solestruck store, ended up taking the first open parking spot I found and sprinting four blocks through downtown in my Minimarket wedges. Next, since these were production samples, there were only right shoes and they weren’t my size.

But, I’m always up for a good challenge and sometimes, a clean and simple product shot is the way to go. Trust me though, if I could have crammed my foot into these size 6 Dolce Vita samples, I would have.

Though these are a fairly basic shape, criss-crossing lines with minimal seams and that huge tassel had me smitten. I think I’m gonna go for the red…and hope that Spring eventually shows up. Which at the moment seems very unlikely. Find yours here.

The Typofiles #75: I Love Avant Garde

magazine typofiles typography

Gingko Press just sent me a copy of I Love Avant Garde, a book from Victionary’s I Love Type series and I thought I’d share. Of the title, Gingko says that “each book in the I Love Type series highlights a single typeface and its prevalence in the design community. This narrow focus lends itself to an in-depth study of each typeface — how the same font can be altered to create different moods and generate an entirely original effect.”

Avant Garde was originally designed by Herb Lubalin as a logo but later became a full typeface. One of my personal favorites, here are some examples of Avant Garde in use that I found particularly compelling.

Overall, I found the book to be really thorough and though I own a decent library of other design books (and read a huge number of design blogs), I would say that half of the projects were completely new to me. I appreciate the singular focus of one typeface because it really helps you grasp the possibilities when you see hundreds of hugely varied design executions. I’ve been a huge fan of Victionary’s titles for years so I am perhaps a bit biased but still, I was pleasantly surprised at the print quality, variety and layouts of this particular title. And, the hot pink edging on all of the pages is an extra special bonus.

What I Wore: 1.10.11 // Layered

Welcome to my dining room, once again. It’s just too cold to be outside without a really good reason! In these winter months, it’s difficult to be both warm and stylish without piling on 10 unflattering layers. I actually found this floaty Forever 21 chiffon dress a few weeks ago at Buffalo Exchange and was dying to wear it, but with a low cut neckline and spaghetti straps, it was highly inappropriate when I looked outside and saw snowflakes. So, I therew on this double-layered sweater that when unwrapped is nearly floor-length. It’s super cozy but not too bulky, which I like.

Wrap sweater, knit hat, really old leggings, Forever 21
Wedges, Minimarket

Joey just finished this painting for his upcoming show, which I love. In other news, I am in the midst of a time-consuming project that will take me through the end of the month so if my posting is a little inconsistent, that’s why. Have an awesome week!
