    Hi Nubby!

I always really love your Link Love posts but I thought the 50 Most Loathsome Americans of 2010 link seemed kind of uncharacteristic, from what you typically share. I love witty, acerbic writing as much as the next person, but the list was just… mean. I don’t normally read The Beast, and I don’t think I’ll be reading it ever again. I mean, overall, the list was pretty accurate. I realize it’s meant to be bringing to list some downright nasty people. But it’s also not accomplishing anything. It’s just adding to the mudslinging that everyone is getting really, really good at. I get tired of seeing it and sometimes I’d love to read some actual, thoughtful answers to the problems…rather than another slew of complaints.

Just thought I’d share my thoughts .. thank you for always sharing interesting stuff :)

Amanda: I doubt that it’s meant to be taken at face value and if anything, while some of it was harsh, some of it was downright funny (and true). As with anything on the internet, take it with a grain of salt. Not everything I share necessarily reflects my personal values — it’s meant to round out the list and more often than not, balance educational links with those that I find entertaining.

The 7up logo looks cool! The article said this version of the logo was introduced in Germany late last year though. Sadly, I don’t know if it will ever make it to the states at this point! But I like it a lot!

I love the illustration work of Jessica Hische. It’s my goal to be as good as you and her, combined! I’d be like some sort of european-cyborg-adorable-type-designing machine! I would totally buy those tights and save them for 40 years, only to pull them out to show the grandkids what vintage type specimens were from the 2010′s…The loathsome post was kind of rotten…especially number one (it was only offensive because they called me out on the fact that I skipped down to the bottom of the list…and were sort of right)!

    • Nubby says:

Lola: I adore her work though she’s definitely a pro at illustration and I don’t dabble in that area. Which makes me appreciate what she does even more! I was amazed at how right on the Nordstrom packaging was as a whole. It’s rare to see that kind of restraint and classiness in these overdone, over-commericalized times where marketers view more as…more. I actually didn’t skip down to the bottom of the Loathsome link until you mentioned it! Haha! Got me. :) As with anything on the internet, it’s not meant to be taken at face value – people need to lighten up a bit!

Jessica Hische is so great – have you seen her diagram of working for free? It’s excellent and me laugh at how many jobs I’ve been asked to do for little/no income. Sometimes it’s all right, most of the time, you know, I need to eat!
