Fashion Inspiration: Winter 2010

Last week, I shared some of my current interior decor inspirations and this week, I thought I’d share some fashion-related inspiration (old and new) that’s been on my mind as of late.

1. Super Chunky Knits. This version by AF Vandevorst is pretty much perfect. 2. Smooth and Sleek Hair. Black and shiny; I love this aesthetic. 3. Leather Shorts. I’ve been wanting some forever and they are a definite for next summer (source unknown). 4. Studded Accessories. I’m still kicking myself for not picking these Givenchy heels up off the Barney’s sale rack last year. 5. Corsets + Muti-buckled Belts. As usual, Ann Demeulemeester was ahead of the curve. 6. Acne Admire Wedges. I actually tried these on a few months back in New York and wow, they are awesome in part because of the mismatched zippers (one’s on the outside, one’s on the inside). 7. Proenza Schouler PS11 Quilted Bag. The hardware on this bag is gorgeous (and it shows in the price!) 8. Newspaper Leggings. By BlackMilk Clothing. 9. Sheer Black & Edgy Evening Wear. This dress has been out for a few seasons now and I think it was by Alexander Wang. I love the back as much as the front. 10. Black & Gold. I still love this image from Dolce & Gabbana. Regal, edgy and modern.

1. Ungaro Branch Heels. Not particularly practical or wearable but who cares? They’re art. 2. Futuristic Ruffles. I tend to like overtly feminine trends to be a bit harder edged and Christopher Kane manages to nail this aesthetic. 3. Cropped Chunky Knits. I’ve loved this look ever since I spotted it on Elle.com. 4. Glam Safety Pins. Just what you need to hold your chunky knits in place! Also via Elle.com. 5. Perfectly Smokey Eyes. Agyness on i-D is the ideal look I’d like to aim for. 6. Sleek Stripes. I’m digging stripes on more dressy silhouettes these days. 7. White Dr. Martens. After a 10 year break, I am happy to have a white pair of Dr. Martens back on my feet again. Tough, comfy and perfect for winter.

Have you heard of those things called “snoods”? They’re an interesting combination between infinity scarves and chunky knit sweaters. I might take a crack at fashioning one for myself out of an old sweater. Oh, and I love those wedges by Acne, but I’m 5’9″, so I’d probably look like an Amazon woman if I wore them…why are the really hot wedges so enormous??? P.S. How’s the desert?

Lola: I have! And hopefully you have some ‘chunky knits’ to keep you warm in your snowy wonderland! See, you’re lucky, you’ve already got the height, I don’t. So, onward with the big ole platforms I will continue unless I’m hit with a sudden and mysterious growth spurt! The desert is awesome — so nice to be in short sleeves and enjoying the sun in December! Imagine that!

  2. Amazing art by Andy Denzler and sequins everywhere are inspiring my fashion style currently. There is something moving about good work that gets my creative wheels spinning when I dress myself – it is like I start with a blank canvas every morning and create a living piece of art. And well, the sequins are simply fun and make me smile when the days get long.
    Much love,

Insomnia: I am a wee bit obsessed with Belgian fashion design! The clean lines, austere palette, minimalism with an unparalleled attention to detail….I just love it.

Right now I’m inspired by post-apocalyptic fashion found in Mad Max, Resident Evil and such. I like to get dressed in the morning knowing that if there is some sort of zombie outbreak I’ll be dressed the part to be some sort of badass.
