I just put some ads together for Solestruck featuring Danish rainboot brand Ilse Jacobsen that were featured earlier in the week on their their blog. I loved the imagery they provided for these so much that I thought I’d share — nothing like some bright, lush colors to brighten up dull, rainy days!
We also did a little teaser for the lookbook that they have coming out soon. It’s sure to be full of cool new stuff…I can’t wait.
Over the weekend, I was walking through Portland’s newly opened H&M when this layered mesh tank top stopped me dead in my tracks. It reminded me so much of my all-time favorite Ann Demeulemeester collection from Spring / Summer 1998 (I’ve always referred to it as the ‘tattoo collection’). For some reason, photos of this are extremely elusive on the internet but after much searching, I was able to find two.
Does anyone else remember this collection? I have a book on Belgian Fashion Design from around 2000 with a reference to it and I remember it popping up in a few American fashion magazines at the time. I loved the script printed on sheer mesh, giving the illusion of type-based tattoos.
Mesh, sequins, type and black are always a winning combo in my book. I have no idea what ‘Cool by night’ is supposed to mean but I’ll take it!
Most of these images were collected a few years back when the nautical theme was still going strong in fashion. I’ve always been drawn to these looks because though they can be whimsical, they also feel timeless. View the full Fashion Notebook set on Flickr.
Yesterday afternoon, in my dining room.
Lately, I’ve been thinking more about defining my style and developing a strong, unified look for each season (remember Gala’s Psychedelic Ladies Who Lunch?) I’m still very much drawn to black but I want the silhouettes to be sleek and European-inspired. And, I want the dark palette to be offset with a dash of metallic detailing. Body-conscious but not showing too much skin. Tall shoes but with chunky, stable platforms. Major monotone accessories. Space-age and super mod. Slight Michael Jackson-inspired flashes of androgyny. Silver, sequins and studs. What should I call this look?
Current Fashion Inspiration: United Nude Stealth Boots, ModCloth Midnight Foil skirt, Herve Leger dress, Miu Miu Crepe Turn-Lock belt, AIAIAI TMA-1 headphones, Shoes, unknown and ModCloth Shake Things Up dress.
I also created a little mood board with some stylistic influences. I don’t have all of the image sources but I love the top editorial featuring Jessica Stam, Leigh Lezark’s consistently sleek all-black looks, any 60’s space age influences, smooth and shiny bluntly cut hair, the oversized Miu Miu turn-locks, edgy yet comfortable black silhouettes, major treads and statement jewelry with a twist.
Though I don’t actually have anywhere to dress up and go to in Portland at the moment, this would be my ideal seasonal look. I’m wearing an H&M dress, Zana Bayne Leather 4-Buckle belt, Wolford Bondage tights and Sam Edelman Zoe boots.
Readers: Have you ever thought about defining your look and developing a regular style direction?
ModCloth just sent me a package with some fun new stuff that I’ve been dying to show you including the Haute Wire Headband (wear it as a bow or grow bunny ears on the spot!), the Apartment Perk Dress and the Jukebox Tights (which you can see below).
I’ve been downtown twice in the last week, working on an article and Joey & I wrapped up one afternoon by stopping at The Tube (which is home to perhaps the most affordable happy hour in town). If I’m not mistaken, a mix drink and beer totaled $4.00. I had to do a double-take at my receipt!
ModCloth sent me these rad Jukebox Tights which are super fun and remind me of something a hot 80’s secretary would wear. I wore them out today with my trusty burgundy Dries wedges but of course, it started pouring and I nearly froze to death. The things we do in the name of fashion!
The mouse is in the house. I’ve been in major cleaning mode, organizing what I want to keep, getting rid of excess clutter and stocking up on basics including my new favorite jeans. In my world, an organized homestead = increased productivity.
Finally, maybe dreams really do come true. Perhaps my prayers to the heavens have finally been answered? A girl can hope.
