The Week in Pictures: 9.19.10 // Part 02: Viva Las Vegas!

Las Vegas can be summed up as the equivalent of Disneyland for adults. The Strip is a road snaking through the barren desert with hotels large enough to house small cities. Inside some of the larger ones, it can easily take 20 minutes to weave your way from one end to the other.

Once you start walking, exits to the outside world become fewer and far between as hotels and shopping centers connect in a maze-like manner. But, you are soon thankful for the joint (air conditioned) complexes when you finally do make it outdoors, only to realize that it’s an unbearably dry 100+ degrees.

When in Vegas, I prefer to stay indoors most of the time anyway for fear that I will dry out and turn into a lizard person. Though, trips outside to the pool are absolutely necessary.

On Friday morning, Bianca and I boarded Virgin America, nonstop to Vegas. It seemed like an appropriate way to recover from a nearly week-long stay in New York full of meetings, a birthday party, Fashion Week and endless miles upon miles of walking. We checked into our digs at The Venetian and Joey later joined us for a weekend of sun and fun. Though this was my third visit to Vegas, Bianca and Joey were first-timers which made it all the more exciting.

The sheer scale of The Venetian blew me away. It features 4,049 suites, 4,059 hotel rooms, and a 120,000-square-foot casino. And gondolas!!!

The first night, we paid a visit to the V Bar at The Venetian. Part of the reason we chose it was because the logo was cool. I’m not kidding!

Inside The Venetian — I was in awe the entire time.

Dinner at The Venetian food court with Bianca. Lookin’ fierce! Joey and I compared fortunes from Panda Express.

I’d never been to Downtown Vegas, which is populated by pawn shops and tons of bail bond places. The heat was unbearable but it was impossible to find a cab back so Bianca called one in. The operator asked her what business we were standing in front of. Bianca: “X-Treme Weed.”

We were all completely exhausted but decided to go out the second night. Bianca wore a Milano dress from a boutique in New York and I wore a Rapscallion short-suit (courtesy of Miss Mary Bee at Hidden Treasures).

We settled on a club at The Mirage where they kept handing us piles of drink cards.
