What I Wore: 7.25.10

Yesterday, my brother burst into my office and said something to the effect of, “I really feel like taking photos. Let’s go.” I’m like, “How soon?” He responded with, “Right now.” He’s way more spontaneous that I am. And, he has a way nicer camera so I always take him up on the offer!
We drove about 10 minutes from home to an industrial area in S.E. Portland and found this building we’d never seen before. It was dead quiet but every once in awhile, really loud mariachi band music would pipe up out of nowhere.

The colors and textures were like nothing I’d ever seen. Though very industrial and gritty in texture, everything was perfectly stacked and organized. The ground had been freshly swept. I felt like it was secretly a movie set!

These Dries van Noten boots are probably the most ridiculous steal I’ve ever come across in my entire life. 80% off. So cheap by Dries standards…the price you’d pay for perhaps a pair of basic Frye boots. Totally an unexpected buy but I knew when I saw them that they would age well with the really simple, classic shape. Plus, the leather is really soft and fits a bit slouchy through the calf so I plan on wearing these in the summer (like yesterday) since they don’t stick or bind.

I swear I’m not grumpy — the sun was just totally blinding. 90+ degrees yesterday! I have a few buffalo plaid dresses that I picked up at Forever 21 over two years ago and still wear them constantly, year round. When it cools down, I pair them with tights, a t-shirt and cardigan.
I Wore:
Dress, Forever 21
Bowler Hat, H&M
Belt, Vintage
Yellow Slip, Forever 21
Helvetica Necklace, Star

Love this look, the hat makes it! Your brother is a killer photographer and I love the location. Looks pro, like a magazine editorial.

Gorgeous photos! The colors are wow. Love the boots–they’re very you (in an unexpected sort of way).

Congrats on the deal – awesome boots. I gotta get some of my own before it gets cold again!
I love how many different ways you’ve styled this dress.

Where did you find these amazing deal boots? Do tell!

So pretty, and such an awesome location!!
I tend to shy away from F21 because everything I’ve ever bought there has not lasted more than a few months, but maybe I should take another look!

I love the little bits of yellow peeking out. And how do you manage to match your surroundings so well? It’s like you’re meant to live in that area…

This is so cool! I love the bowler with that dress. It makes me want to explore Portland further for some similarly awesome backdrops for my photos. Inspired!

Gala: He’s always working and way too busy for me! Which is too bad because I love collaborating with him.
Amandalee: Though it’s so hot out right now, August is right around the corner….and then September….Fall boots!
Sally: Halo Shoes in Portland, OR! Their site is being redone right now but they have the best sale rack. I’ve gotten most of my best deals there….I tend to not care what season a particular shoe is from and wear a small size (6.5 or 7) so I have fairly good luck.
Freya: I am really picky about what I buy at F21. I tend to stick to basic colors and patterns and only buy cotton, linen and wool blends. I stay away from silky or synthetic fabrics that tend to snag and look worn out fast.
Moni: Total coincidence!
Meg: It’s sad that so many of the industrial areas like The Pearl have been gobbled up by boutiques and condos…I am so glad I live in S.E. where much of the grit is still alive and well!
LifeAsIShowIt: The best part is that the yellow was totally unplanned — I love it when that happens!
