Greetings and salutations! The sun is out, one of my good friends stopped by unexpectedly for a visit last night, Rocky has a shiny new red collar, I’ve been doing work for a rad local agency, my dad is taking me out to lunch this afternoon, I got some new supplies (see above) and a massive birthday party is going down at a local distillery for two of my friends tonight. To say that life is good is a major understatement.

I’m pretty sure that I mentioned last week that Beauty Bar has a photo booth upstairs. When my friend Pam and I stopped by, of course we had to try it out and attempted our best Home Alone impressions.

I had the best meeting ever with Solestruck yesterday. The Director of Operations and I met to talk design (and shoes). Some of the new brands they’re bringing in for fall made my heart skip a beat. The very best of the best; specific styles of impossible-to-find brands that I had unknowingly saved images of to my desktop weeks ago. They’re definitely on the pulse of what’s cool. We’re going to start collaborating soon on design and I can’t wait.

I thought this was pretty funny – at the Solestruck store, a single Clinic was locked in a glass case built into the wall.

Business card junkie? Perhaps.

Liberty of London just did a capsule collection for Target featuring their bold floral patterns with a retro twist. I immediately snapped up this slip to wear under summer dresses. To me, the pattern is reminiscent of 60s bed sheets.

Welcome to my life. I feel like I live at my desk. These days, the only escape I make is to go to the coffee shop (Hi, Speedboat!), the post office or meetings.

Absolute perfection. I want to come to Portland! Maybe an impromptu road trip this summer…whee! Anyway, I need typography help. How do I become better at it? Any type of brain exercises that I can do to improve my skills? Oh, and how can I generate freelance work? Does sending out postcards work? Thanks a bunch! :D

Lola: Yes, come to Portland! The summers are amazing! For typography help, check out the really comprehensive article Smashing Mag just put up: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2010/05/06/50-helpful-typography-tools-and-resources/

For generating freelance, I’ve never really mailed out postcards – what about going to a placement agency and showing your portfolio? They can do all the legwork and find companies that can use your skills. Also, set up informational interviews at local agencies to get a feel if your work would be a good fit and send your portfolio off to owners / art directors.

If I didn’t know any better, I would have guessed that shoe display was in your own home! It would fit right in. ;)

Ohh how amazing are the boots in the first photo? I would very much like to be in possession of some/all of those little kickers.

The business cards look fabulous and I love that last photo of you. Loverly :) x
