Nubbytwiglet.com 2010 Square Business Cards

When I redesigned my corporate identity a few months ago, I decided to change things up and do square business cards. Last week, I placed an order with Uprinting.com and they showed up today! I’m loving the compact size. In real life, the colors are true to the mockups. I should mention that I’m not giving up traditional cards any time soon – I just ordered two new versions of those too. A business card addict? Perhaps.

I think making yours square is really progressive. It strays away from the norm, so I think they’re way more recognizable than the rectangular ones. I would totally pin yours on my inspiration board instead of tossing it in my wallet. Classy, yet modern…well done!

Very snazzy. I’ve received a few square cards in my day and they always stick out to me mainly cause I have a love of squares I guess. They look very nice and very you.

I just took a look at Uprinting, I always see these sites and I’m kinda scared to use them. I don’t know for some reason they feel scammy but I’m glad you got amazing results. I’m going to keep it in mind for later projects.

dendoo: Online printing sites are really affordable but if you have the budget and want something special done like a thicker card stock, colored edges or any sort of embossing and have more $ to fork over, a traditional printer is the way to go. Eventually I want to explore a letterpress option!

Nice! Although I think you’re right, it’s best still to have the traditional format. these ones are kind of like…a trendy update to freshen up a wardrobe, but for your marketing/networking arsenal. love!

Annching: Agreed. These are more like an extra option. I’ll always keep standard options on hand as well.

I have been looking for a quality printer for ages for my business cards. Was your overall experience with Uprinting a positive one? I’ve gone through VistaPrint before with terribad results.
(Also a side question: Did you order them with a Matte finish?)

Arcko: The quality is fairly good though my best experience has consistently been with Overnightprints.com. I ordered from Uprinting.com because Overnight doesn’t offer a square format. I did do a matte finish.

Wow, love the squares! I have square cards myself, made with vintage rub-on letters.
Letterpressed ones would be pretty bad-ass too. Would you ever want to learn letterpress yourself?

amanda lee: I LOVE rub-on letters. Still have a box of misc. ones that I treasure. I am trying to pinpoint what type of design I want to do right now for letterpress ones….and I would love to learn how someday. Maybe a class at some point…though I think it would become a sick addiction! I am totally obsessed with blind embossing too.

I really wanted to get some of the matte square biz cards from uprinting, I’m glad someone else got them first so I could be like HAY, HOW ARE THEY?

I love business cards–you’ve posted some pretty creative ones before. And if it helps you stand out, why not??

I debated having mine as a square, but then I realized how impractical that format it is to just toss into a wallet.
People want something that’s easy to store, and I find the square would get ruined in a wallet. For something as pretty as this to get bent out of shape just seems like such a waste!
The printing quality looks really good too, I hope they ship to Canada!

cmykinky: I have to second timothy that the compact size of the squares makes them less likely to get beat up. And a thin metal biz card case is a nice thing to invest in – super lightweight and keeps your cards from getting destroyed. Something like this: http://officepdx.com/product.php?pdx=698

I also love the white border you left around the card. Looks more modern and fresh than a bleed. Looks great.

Nice secondary option Nubbs. I like the variations of grey you used, and as always the shoes are a must. I found since I started displaying a few square cards I’ve made to prospective clients they are really liking the way they stand out. I keep getting requests for them.
@Arcko: I’ve used Uprinting numerous times and have never had an issue with any of my products. They run great offers and specials. I’ve also had good luck with Gotprint.com. They offer a nice 16pt card stock for b-cards as an option.
@cmykinky The square ones actually get less ruined in my wallet than my regular cards. I have classic sized design cards and my DJ b-cards are square and they often come out looking better when I hand them out.

timothy: Thanks for all the info. I don’t think my square version will ever replace my standard options, but I think it definitely has a more boutique feel and is a modern switch-up from the tried and true standards. I was happy with the Uprinting quality. Usually, online printing turns out great as long as you follow exacts specs (i.e. CMYK, paying attention to bleeds and crops, using a rich black, outlining text, etc.) I’ll have to check out Gotprint.com.

I like those cards! I personally love the mini sized ones. I’m the sort to have a small sleek version of cards, because I find the normal sizes to be a bit cumbersome inside my wallet.
In any case, the only problem I have is that I can’t seem to find places aside from Moo.com that prints mini cards (aprox. 1.5 x 3) I have some I made for my rosary business, but I haven’t been able to find affordable options. I’ll try UPrinting, but who knows! <3

@Melinda Uprinting offers a slim 1.75 x 3.5″ option.
