The Typofiles #53: Script-tastic!

In an issue of Print, I found an interesting article about the evolving script logo of iconic department store Lord & Taylor, which has been hand-rendered for decades.

Also, a snippet from avant garde Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto’s storefront and branding was tucked away in the same issue.

Who knew such beautiful logos weren’t as organically designed as I once thought!

The Lord&Taylor bit is fascinating. I’m always interested in line quality, especially rendered by hand. The directions are one thing – then there are all the other factors! Ink contains a lifetime of possibilities.
