The Week in Pictures: 1.29.10

Details make a house a home. I am totally loving these serigraphs from House Industries which I finally got around to slipping into IKEA frames and setting against my matte black walls. All I can say is…I want more, more, more.

More jewels. I am still on a bit of a jewelry kick and Forever 21 always delivers. For maybe fifteen dollars total, I scored these studded bracelets and the LOVE ring. I used to hate gold with a passion but don’t mind it any longer as long as it’s faux and over-the-top.

The Boiler Room. Portlanders, you HAVE to check out the Boiler Room at the Kennedy School! My photos do it no justice. The site accurately describes it as, “Behind an unassuming, seemingly ordinary hallway door hides a wonderful space, a huge, multi-level spot (formerly the school’s boiler room) that has been turned into Kennedy School’s latest bar!” Winding railings, vintage signs and tons of dangling lights all mesh perfectly.

You know your life is good when….everything is perfectly color coordinated without any effort.

Handwritten. There’s still something very magical about receiving tiny, typed letters in your mailbox. I totally adore Miss Mary Bee and can’t wait for our next multi-state adventure.

Until Next Week,

Forever 21 is the jewelry spot! Out of all the things I wear, their jewelry gets the most compliments. It might make me itch and turn my skin green, but I love it!
Actual letters in the mail are probably my favorite thing in the world. That’s the main reason I wanted that YSL wallet so bad and was happy to receive. Are you a letter writer as well?

Hi Nubby!
I would be happy to send you postcards from Washington, D.C.! I was brought up on sending letters/postcards and love all such things, including philately.
If you want to e-mail me your address, you may do so at medusa@obscure.org If not, no worries!

That has to be one of the most magical-looking snail mail letters I’ve ever seen!

OH man, I gotta go to that boiler room joint!
I’m also a fan of those House Industries serigraphs, but what I really want is a great big metal letter S that’s like four feet tall.

I got a suitcase typewriter at a yard sale when I was in middle school, convinced I was going to become the world’s best pen pal. Sadly, I never found a spool and it’s been in my closet ever since.
Now I want to dig it out again.

Love, love, love that wallet! Do they still sell it? I’m going to San Fran in March, and it would be a dream to find it! I also like the typed letter. Remember the good ol’ days when we had to practice our keyboarding skills on one of those? I wish I still had one! And P.S. Sorry about the post yesterday. I’m a GD in training, and am kinda addicted to the grid system. Seeing it defied is a new thing to my eyes! But you have to know the rules before you break them, and clearly, you know your sh*t. I think you’re the best, through and through.

Natalie/Fashion Intel: I haven’t had the itchy & green outcome with any F21 jewelry yet, but I also remove it before sleeping and / or showering! And 10+ years ago, I used to write letters constantly….now I am one of those horrible email only folks. Sad!
Sean: The bigger the letter, the better? Maybe that should be our new motto…
Lola: I am pretty sure they still sell the full Y-Mail line at YSL boutiques. There are so many items from the collection to choose from, it was really hard even deciding on which wallet to get.
alex/galaxiegirl: Yes, I linked them last week. Totally coveting!

I’m so happy that there are other people actively using their Typewriter’s to pen pal! I wish more people would still penpal, sometimes I write to my best friend in Chicago even though she’ll never write me back ~ha~
