Great post! Another couple resource for starting a blog would be squarespace (http://www.squarespace.com/) – they hosting, templates, the works! I also love Startlogic, who does hosting, domain names, etc. – they have really good customer service as well. Good luck to the new bloggers!

I agree with your lo-fi art approach. Something about getting your hands dirty with some real-life materials is so rewarding. If you can hit command-Z, it’s not quite the same.
