My Brother is Totally Out of Control. And Now He Has a Blog.

My brother Carey and I have always been close. Growing up, we took swimming lessons and Taekwondo together. We started our own businesses when we were teenagers and helped each other along the way. We both went to school for graphic design. And last year, we bought a house together. Friends may come and go but you always have family. He just started a blog that features his photography, graphic design and apparel and I decided to do a quick Q&A so that you can get to know him (for better or worse).

Nubby Twiglet: Why did you decide to start blogging?
Carey Haider: I decided to start blogging because too much crazy sh*t happens to me on a daily basis. And, one man’s pain is another man’s pleasure.
NT: What’s your profession?
CH: Man of many jobs, master of nothing. Freelance is a tough game so I do photography, graphic design, run a t-shirt company and am working on a high end menswear cut-and-sew line.
NT: What do you want to be when you grow up?
CH: I’d like to tour full time with bands, doing live photography.
NT: Any hobbies?
CH: Collecting taxidermy, fishing, riding motorcycles, shooting guns, thrift shopping / estate sales. Really, I am doing exactly what I want to do, just always going bigger and better.
NT: Who are your idols?
CH: I don’t have idols but I respect the following: Tim Armstrong for his work ethic and Kings of Leon. I think of them as a modern Led Zeppelin because they never sound the same. Each album they put out is an exploration of something new.

NT: Tell us about your clothing line, Blacktooth.
CH: It’s always guaranteed to be lewd. I get letters from kids saying they’re bummed because their mom took away their favorite t-shirt.
NT: What’s the most private thing you’re willing to admit on the internet?
CH: I once shot a lady in the neck while she was driving a car. Everything is a lesson in life and I’ve learned that you’re not supposed to shoot people.

NT: What do you think about mom’s ongoing obsession with Steve Perry?
CH: It really sucks that I never got child support from my true father or the gold records on the wall.
NT: Do you remember what your first words were?
CH: Titty out! (note: he was hungry).
NT: What’s been your favorite celebrity run-in to date?
CH: Suge Knight. That fool is huge! We ran into him at Pinkberry in LA on our way to a Courtney Love show.
NT: Your blog features a ton of your photography. Any tips or tricks you’re willing to share?
CH: You can follow a trend or you can create a style.
NT: What’s your advice to kids that want to be like you when they grow up?
CH: Don’t do what I do, but definitely take your own path in life.

There you go. Visit often and do so at your own risk.

I love the relationship you seem to have with your brother, it’s certainly something to aspire to. I really like what he says about either following trends or creating a style. You two both create style.

I love the interview but I am wondering what did Carey shoot that lady with? A BB gun?

Femke: He’s definitely a ladies man! Haha.
monica: He is supposed to add the shirts to his webstore this week.
Kate: Thanks, taking your own path is harder but I think that the payoff is much bigger.
Aunt Bronnie: Yes, a BB gun out of his friend’s bedroom window. Classy.
