Current Inspiration: Darkness.

Recently, I have been inspired by the following: Black, pretty girls and skulls. Most of these images have been gathered over the years in corners of the internet far and wide, so if any belong to you, let me know and I will credit them.

Readers: What is inspiring you right at this moment?

I am obsessed with skulls also. I keep buying human-sized ones to keep my collection of ears on. My favourite is the hot pink glitter one but I have a fuchsia one that doubles as a piggybank which is pretty good too. Haha.

Zippers! I’m making a type specimen poster for my Intro to Type class, so I chose Avant Garde Gothic (thanks to one of your posts earlier). The font designer’s phrase is “Tight but not touching,” which makes me think of when you try on pants that are too tight…and you can’t get them buttoned! And also, the letters in the typeface kinda fit into one another, like the teeth of a zipper. So now I can’t help but look at all of my jeans and think of Avant Garde!

actually, i’ve been struggling with coming up with some ideas for my illustration class and of course wasting my time on the net, but i stumbled upon this great hungarian designer, Stefan Kanchev. he sure was awesome, check it out: http://stefankanchev.com it really is worth a while.

but still, i’ve got nothing for my class tomorrow:/

Currently: anything and everything purple, particularly dark colors like indigo, violet, wine, and grape juice and very light colors like lavender and almost-white; tea of varying flavors and temperatures, especially flowery teas or non-tea tinctures; cupcakes and sweet things juxtaposed with typically bitter, black, macabre, or evil things.

  5. I love love love the fuck you, it’s magic. That’s my new favourite thing ever.

Inspiration? Right now? Hrn… The Age of Exploration, ships, dusy roadways, genie lamps, motor homes and boarded up windows. I’m rushing through NaNoWriMo at this moment, so man, all the writing inspiration I can cram is would be good!

Hi- LOVED this post…I am always inspired by the darkness, Madonna, diamonds, and skulls…I am always going back to that for inspiration. Other things that I find inspiring at the moment are: bows, sequins, bustiers, birdcage veil…
    Keep it coming!

Gala: I love your collection of skulls! I saw the bank ones at Urban Outfitters last week but none of the colors matched my decor!

Lola: Good for you for choosing Avant Garde! Make Herb Lubalin proud. And I like how you’re relating type to your everyday life.

SaraKate: “cupcakes and sweet things juxtaposed with typically bitter, black, macabre, or evil things.” EXACTLY.

Danielle: Great inspirations! Androgyny is always good. And I have been getting back into going to estate sales with my brother.

Robin Factor: A girl after my own heart! Bows and sequins also…sooo good.

Clarity: Thanks for the feedback. I have so many thousands of images that I might start doing this as a regular feature.

De-lurking to say I love wearing black but wish I had the discipline and consistency you have with clothing (and decor and design)!

I’ve been a big fan of the chic dark style for a while now and skulls are one of my fave things ever. Currently I’m on a blue phase and just dyed my hair blue-black and wear a black leather rose cuff all the time now.

    Love this post!

Hey, actually it’s YOU that’s inspiring me lately, I luv your stark B&W with red splashed around, also inspired that you & your cool-ness are here in Portland like myself.
Cheesy as it sounds I’m also inspired by different shows on tv lately, the “reality” shows that let us see some of the behind the scenes stuff in fashion, ie; Styld, the City, Project Runway, Top Model. . .
Anyway, luv your shit, I’d luv to bump into you out at some Portland fashion event or whatever sometime, take care, Rachel. Streetwalkerpdx.blogspot.com
