This vintage issue of Avant Garde magazine features a collection of Picasso’s engravings but I find the use of type throughout much more compelling. You can view all of The Typofiles on Flickr here.

I just found this and I thought of you–have you seen this before? I think it’s wonderful.

Mmmmm, I LOVE Avant Garde. It’s one of my favorite fonts.

Beautiful.
Look into Anthropologie’s new site: http://theanthropologist.net/
The font is great and for their printed materials they use white tonal embossed of the font on their website. It’s really well done.

I love the black, white, and green color combination! So striking!

Kudos on your find(?). One of the classiest mags published about design.

Slightly off topic, you might be in contention for your nickname. Have you heard about the dog Nubs from Iraq? Happy/sad and cute story:

hah.. nubby is DEFINITELY not unique among dogs. My dog has a website called http://powernubby.com POWER NUBBY!! His name is not nubby, but he was born with a peg leg which we call his nubby.. which resulted in a website that we use to raise money and help handicapped pets

That’s some nice typography. I love how the apostrophe lines up with the base of the E in Garde.

That’s cute and sweet, Lindsay. Seems like a good cause too!

at least its not in any of the families i own.. Where in the WORLD do you get this version of ITC Avant Garde?

» Nubby said: { Nov 19, 2009 - 10:11:24 }

lindsay: The title is in Avant Garde but certain letters are from the ‘Alternate’ version…I got mine from an agency job but I’m sure you can buy it from a type foundry.

Thats so weird. I was just confused i guess.. I have the complete package, but i’ve had it for years and it didnt come with the alternates.. Now I just bought the alternates and wouldn’t you know, they aren’t the right size! Apparently different type foundries released it back then than they do now, and we have found that there is a 2pt size difference in the two different versions..

So now i have these stupid alternates that are smaller than the rest of the package that I have. So when I type at 14pt the alternates are smaller
