Exploring the Nubbytwiglet.com 2010 Identity

I am currently in the beginning stages of formulating the look of my 2010 Identity. I’ve decided to drop Helvetica and switch to DIN for a sans serif typeface. And for a serif, I’m considering Bodoni Ultra. The black and white palette will most likely shift to a series of grays. Some older elements like the Kors Firebird wedges that have been featured in my blog header and business cards will return on some pieces, as will the portrait from my 2009 media kit.

The look I settle on will carry across my blog, media kit, portfolio, presentation decks and promotional materials. More to come as the look progresses!

Every identity I’ve seen you make has been very well put together and cohesive so I’m curious why you choose to refresh it once a year. Is it something you do because you enjoy it or is it standard to do so in your field?
The new identity looks fantastic and I’m really looking forward to seeing the rest of your new look.

Liz: That’s a great question. It isn’t standard to change identities this often at all; it’s actually quite the opposite. But for me, I like to push my boundaries, take a chance and try out new inspirations. I use my collateral so much that I get tired of it fairly fast and love to switch things up.

Nubby: It’s good to know! I’ve noticed you do a good job of creating pieces that slide into your new identity until the old one runs out (as you talked about the last time you changed your identity) I assume you also have an idea by now how quickly you go through business cards and such and can order only enough for the year.
Personally, I find myself, with my much more limited identity, torn between doing all the work to make a new identity, (and the fear that I would change it so much people won’t recognize me) and the desire to move out of something I’m sick of looking at and that will better show the direction my art has headed in over the last year or so.

Loving the greys. Everything looks lovely and fresh. I am very excited to see what you come up with Nubs! Can you be my mentor? :D

I like it, although I’m so used to seeing some red in the equation! I find with every mature we get to see a maturity in each change you make. It’s really fun watching your process work. This is by far the most corporate looking. two thumbs up Nubbs.

Gen: I adore Helvetica, it’s true! But at the same time, change is good. There are a gazillion other typefaces out there that deserve some love too!

cmykinky: I dropped the red from most of my work ages ago because I felt like I’d done it for years and years and it was time to move on. Sort of a ‘been there, done that’ attitude. I don’t want to live in the past so I’m constantly pushing to reinvent the vision…

Luana: I love Helvetica with all my heart, but I need a drastic change. Helvetica is everywhere else in my life; it doesn’t need to be a part of everything I design as well.

    Liz: Thank you!

oh god, the DIN. i never get all hot about a font, but if I had to pick just one to use for the rest of my life… and in greys, aahh. i have no words.

but really, to me this is a huge improvement on your previous identities. your work is usually impeccable, but this also happens to be just my taste. makes me happy!
