This is the first Week in Pictures that I have gotten around to doing in October. Wait, did I just say October? Where has this year gone?!! Over the last two weeks, I have spent time at two agencies, done two rush jobs, accepted two new clients and though it feels great to be busy, sometimes blogging inevitably slows down in the process.

One of the first things I noticed when I returned from New York was that my brother had been on a major taxidermy binge. When I walked into our house, I was totally freaked out by the stillborn baby deer that had taken up residence on our fireplace mantle! Additionally, a white (goat? ram?) creature has also moved in. I’ve told him that enough is enough, but he’s on a roll…and there’s no stopping him! We have at least four deer and a bear head as well.

My brother loves frequenting estate sales and I decided to join him to see what the big deal was about. In the process, I found a box of tiny vintage keys for a few dollars. I am still not sure what I am going to do with these, but either way, I love the variety of shapes.

This is the future. I have been mixing distressed clothing items with extreme silhouettes of shoes (these Chloes from the side are very hoof-like); I am interested in how the fashion landscape is now compared to the way we thought the future would be. To me, it is all very post-apocalyptic and un-polished…and I love that.

I grabbed this Comme des Garcons postcard at one of their temporary outposts when I was in New York; I love the simplicity of the design. As you can guess, the store was very very black.

Two weeks ago, I went on a belated birthday trip to visit some llamas. Stop by on Monday for the full story! One of my favorites was this multicolored beauty; I think her name is Mary Patricia.

I have so much that I want to share with you but it’s time to get back to work! I’ve been hanging out with the Nemo boys this week and there’s much more to do. Readers: Do you have any big weekend plans?

I have the very strong urge to snuggle those llamas. I bet they’re super soft–and not really into cuddling.

Jealous of your keys, too! I bought a couple skeleton keys at a flea market last year and slipped one onto a chain to make a cute necklace. So jewelry is one idea for you. Earrings or a charm bracelet could be awesome. Or you could make chimes or a mobile. The possibilities are endless!

I love the keys! I’m Native American so I have a lot of animal skins and bones lying around the house. Thankfully no stuffed animals have shown up yet.

I was supposed to have a photo shoot today and tomorrow but it looks like the rain we have in Rhode Island right is gonna cancel both shoots. So I’ll be staying inside catching up on scary movies I own but never watched.

From the Monty Python dictionary
Llama: (n) The llama is a quadruped which lives in large rivers like the Amazon. It has two ears, a heart, a forehead, and a beak for eating honey. But, it is provided with fins for swimming. Also, llamas are larger than frogs.

Now to be real impressive you could get a dead llamas head on the wall! haha including its full neck!

The keys are really cool, maybe you could stick some onto the front of draws? I had an idea once to cover the front of some draws with many different handles, but it would have a similar look with keys i guess, maybe only on alternate draws?

p.s Don’t work too hard :)

Ouh I love the keys too! You could put the nice ones as a necklace charm with a beautiful tassle. Or put them in a frame and arrange them all nicely like this http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3018/2920491077_db29918eb0.jpg. Or make a clock with each hour being a key like this http://www.lushlee.com/images/home-accessories/09/9/vintage-keys-clock.jpg the possibilities are endless :D I really love your picture (the first one) it has a grainy, vintage style. J’adore!

Or make a beautiful chime (although I’m not sure what kind of sound that would make….alright enough!

Those llamas look positively snuggle-worthy!

I’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving (Canadian-style) and finishing up my term at the museum in my hometown. I already have visions of turkey and wearing elastic waistbands! I hope you have a fantastic weekend, Nubby!

Rachel: The necklace idea is where I am leaning. And llamas are very soft; the younger they are, the softer they are. They don’t like to be cuddled though. Seems that they prefer to be petted on their neck area and that is it. Sadness!

joseph: Hahahahahaha! So cute!

Shauna: Trust me, my brother already tried to find a dead llama. Sad but true!

Kylie Jean: Were you doing an internship at the museum? If so, that sounds like fun!

I don’t get taxidermy. Why would you want a dead animals head in your house? It was so much more beautiful alive! People don’t do that to other humans. Anyway, the llamas you visited were beautiful

When my boyfriend and I get a new place I definitely want something taxidermy. I’ve inherited an armadillo and sea turtle from my grandma but they’re not really my look. Maybe a goat’s head? After all, my boyfriend loves black metal.

I have no idea why taxidermy intrigues me, I think I will do some investigating on that because I’d love to tell Bec (above) why I’d want a dead animal in my house. She has a point, but I cannot deny my interests!

The keys are really great!!!

I read on here that you read self-help books. We share this in common. For me, the keys are the cover art of a self-help book or some industry related text, maybe written by you. What do you think?

The vegan in me does not like taxidermy, however, recycling is recycling, so do it up. Have you seen Brooke Weston’s work? http://artbybrookeweston.com/ She is a fellow Portland artist who recycles taxidermy by making dioramas inside them..absolutely brilliant. Have a good weekend darling, and take good care.
