The Week in Pictures: 8.7.09

I was in a class earlier this week and wrote down a note about something that I was trying to achieve. When I got home, I had an email that provided me with just that. I’ve been learning to simply ask for what I want and to clearly state what I’m seeking. It’s amazing how much more easily life unfolds when you’re sure of what you’re after.

Can you tell that this is my bathroom? The big house-related triumph of the week was finishing my bathroom (besides the strange faux tiling, the walls are now matte white). Though, it’s so much more than just a bathroom. The space is so massive that I could easily fit 20 of my closest friends in it…oddly enough, there’s no tub or shower!

Since the back half of the bathroom area is a huge open space, I turned it into my dressing room, complete with two oversized white IKEA closets and a full-length mirror. It’s so beyond awesome! When the lighting is better, I’ll show you some more of the details…

Vroooom! I’m a bit enamored with the neighbor’s car. Please don’t tell him.

I spent some time near the waterfront yesterday and then wrapped back around to Old Town and Chinatown for First Thursday. I only made it to Backspace. Everyone I was with was more keen on using their free drink tickets than checking out the galleries.

Not visiting other galleries ended up being just fine with me once I realized that the best art of all was in this bathroom.
How was your week?

that bathroom reminds me of this seriously awesome bathroom i encoutered in a pizzeria on south beach (in miami). i had some pictures in it, and the lighting they had was purple, but, i have no idea where they went. shame.
and i agree, when you know where you wanna go in life, the only thing you can do is go for it. things seem so much simpler once you’ve made the initial decision.

Crys: IKEA ones are great because you can pick out different sizes and fixtures to go inside.
veebhu: I only use that smaller Nikon sometimes…the one I mostly use is the Nikon P80.
Gala: I know, it’s sooo soon! Panic mode! Gotta do laundry and pack! Haha.

I love your top! I just bought a dress like that, but I need to really fit into it first. Haha. Cheers! Awesome photos, as always!

ravenessa: Haha, there are other bathrooms in the house! It’s not like we just have one with no shower or tub and that’s it.

Hey Nubby,
I love watching the progress of your house, and how your style extends to interiors. Are you planning on keeping that tiling in the bathroom or removing it later?
Also, do you worry about humidity in the bathroom affecting your clothes? I know there’s only a sink, so it probably won’t be an issue…
I’m lucky enough to have a “walk-in” closet too… enjoy the luxury, it makes getting ready much more of an event!
[Reply]
Flora: Eventually I’m going to rip out that fake tiling and replace it with the real thing in black. There’s not really any humidity in that room plus there’s a window that’s always open. If there was a shower, I probably wouldn’t have put my clothes in there.

Love your photos! Seriously: so much.

It’s so true about being clear about what you want but not desperate. I think it adds a weird twist. Oh sweet! I’ve always wanted a dressing room. I always wanted to put the head of my bed in one of those long useless closets with the sliding doors. I’d take the doors off and put the top of my bed in there and add some sheer or some kind of curtains on the side. I enjoy visiting Portland through your blog hehe.

Ah, you’ve even coordinated your toothbrush! You are truly inspiring.
And do tell, do tell…where did you find that awesome antler-hanger?
[Reply]
Alice: I found the antlers at Urban Outfitters last year.

Isn’t that the whole up & down, good & bad of living in a big city right there??
