Coilhouse Magazine: Issue 3 Test Spread

I’ve needed some more editorial-based work for my design portfolio and Coilhouse Magazine was gracious enough to let me do a try-out of one of their articles. Coilhouse is known for having a certain flair to its pages so I added a combination of transparent overlays and bold flourishes while making the quotes playfully curve around their subjects.

I had so much fun doing this layout and though I’ve worked with Coilhouse previously (I designed their 2009 media kit and ad grid), I hope to do some editorial-based work for them in the future!

Luisaviaroma.com is the equivalent of a perfectly archived museum for fashion where everything is beautiful and resembles a work of art. And, it’s available for purchase…if your credit card limit is high enough. It’s all quite unattainable (for me, anyway) but it never hurts to take a look around…and then swiftly save all of the images to your desktop.

Zippers & Sequins! I’ve been buying very little clothing lately, but these jeans by Tripp NYC and a very sequined blazer by bebe Design Lab are adding some spice to my very utilitarian summer wardrobe.

MJ Love. This week, I spent some quality time at the grocery store with my good friend Mike and then invited my friend Pam over to watch funny MJ videos. He’ll always be my hero.

The Bedroom. The black-walled bedroom is nearly together! Though, I should mention that the top half of the walls along with the ceiling are white so that the room feels more like a fancy boutique instead of a goth hideout. Our special friend Jean-Luc Pierre Cardin (ridiculous name is courtesy of Lee) is enjoying his new home, right above our TV. Don’t you love his fancy scarf? We put up our damask curtains this week as well and I love them so much; the sunlight shines through in really cool patterns.

Media Kit. I went to Kinko’s on Wednesday night to get copies of my 2009 media kit printed and hung a copy on my office wall for reference. Nice wallpaper, Nubs.

P.S. Thank you to Forever 21 for featuring my type project on their blog! I love the new photos that they’ve chosen for the header as well. Their team is insanely busy yet they still make time to regularly email me. Awwwww.

• Though they sought immediate gratification by downloading his songs, Michael Jackson fans are running out and buying his CDs in huge numbers.

• Watch out for a recent wave of convincing Christian Louboutin and Jimmy Choo knockoff shoes that are flooding the market. If the prices seem too good to be true, they probably are.

• Buamai always has the most inspiring photos and I love its clean interface.

• Vogue just dug into their archives to show us some classic shots of supermodels Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, and Linda Evangelista as they appeared in the magazine in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

• This experiment with pudding packaging is pretty interesting…it demonstrates how we can be swayed by a product’s exterior even if its contents are identical.

• I didn’t realize that skin whitening is a popular practice around the world.

• Find out how the average American consumer spends their paycheck.

• Gala Darling just publicly announced personal blog project, Love Letter To The Universe. It’s a compelling and funny read, I promise!
