The Week in Pictures: 7.31.09

Summer calls for striped socks paired with ridiculous shoes and new reading material.

Sometimes inspiration shows up in very unlikely places (like J. Crew catalogs). I loved the colors and handwritten type treatment in these.

Not that you can tell from these photos, but it was 106 degrees in Portland a few days ago. Totally unfathomable. My brother and I couldn’t take it any longer (I was sitting in my office trying to do freelance while dripping with sweat!) so we drove downtown and wandered through air conditioned stores.

I was particularly impressed with the lighting set-up in Anthropologie.

I’m on a major promo kick at the moment. These postcards just arrived and I just did a prototype of my media kit in a book format. Tune in on Monday for the outcome!
I don’t really know where this week went. Between juggling freelance and painting the dining room with my brother (cue disaster; it’s a good thing we’re ripping out the carpet because he kept dropping the roller and the floor is covered in paint!) the days have completely evaporated. I can’t believe it’s already August tomorrow….
How was your week?

Man, all of Oregon has been baking hot lately, it’s like hell sprang a leak. I just now drove through town and it was 103 degrees. Wandering through chilly stores sounds nice, though, I may have to go do that!

Was Anthropologie ok with you taking pictures? Because I remember I was taking a picture and the sales lady flipped.
That J. Crew catalog is prettty!

Limespark: I know! It was so ridiculously hot that now that it’s back to 90, I think it’s just warm and breezy!
Carolyn: I was very quick and discreet…but I’ve been caught in the act before at other stores!

Loving the striped socks with ridiculous shoes. It’s a good combo.

You may have already read this because it appeared online when the MJ news was still fresh, but I think this is really beautiful: http://www.margaretcho.com/content/2009/06/26/rip-michael/#comments

My week was awesome, but I’m happy it’s already August. Now I have an excuse to do back-to-school shopping!

Good to see that I’m not the only one into stripy socks…

I’ll see you on Monday for more painting and frolicking!!

I can’t believe it is August either. Where has the year gone?! I swear, just a few weeks ago it was january. Time, it seems, has sped up dramatically!

Morgan: Thanks for the MJ link, it’s so sweet to hear other celebrities reminiscing about their experiences with him.
Auntie Nubs: Just be glad that you missed the carpet ripping out extravaganza last night! Haha. We’re total maniacs. Lee said he’d only hire us if he ever needed a demolition…and I don’t blame him.
Lauren: Insane, isn’t it? This year has gone by the fastest of them all it seems.

Hey, I think you may have already seen this, but just in case:
Luxirare.com: she made an outfit to honor MJ. And when I say made, I mean constructed it from scratch. Truly amazing stuff!

Love your socks and shoes! <3
And that cover of Rolling Stone… Michael looks sad there but so beautiful at the same time.

Love the pictures! I am so sick of the excruciating heat. Oklahoma is around the name high degree weather, too. Luckily, last week it was around 70 degrees for three days in a row! And to be borderline July, it was unexpected. Now that it’s August, I’m a little scared ):

I’d KILL for some of the heat you guys have been suffering with. This is the worst Chicago summer since I’ve moved here–winter held on for AGES, and even now it feels like late spring or early autumn. Grrr!

Those cards are rad. My style of promo has always been equally in-your-face but I unfortunately live in Toronto where I get a hard time about it.

MJstyle: I know that photo was taken back at Neverland after he was acquitted in 2005. You can see the sadness in his eyes; I don’t think he ever really learned how to trust anyone after that.
