The Week in Pictures: 6.26.09

I am very saddened by the death of MJ. A commenter on my blog said “I am in utter disbelief that this is happening. It doesn’t even seem real, but more surreal and not true. I am hoping it’s some promo stunt to promote some secret new album but realistically, he’s gone.” That’s exactly how I’m feeling. I’ll have more to say on Monday. Until then, here’s The Week in Pictures.
…
This week has definitely kept me on my toes. I spent the first half putting in 12 hour days moving and painting and the second half going to meetings, designing more blogs and catching up on client work. And now, I am sitting in Reno!

New Office. The first room in the house that I’ve been working on is my office. It’s the one area that I need to be completely functional by July 1st so I can carry on with business! I did the walls all matte white and there’s a thin strip of black trim along the upper half that I’ll photograph soon. The room is very empty at the moment, but the second I am able to lug in the rest of the furniture up the stairs, you’ll get a tour of the outcome!

Albina Press. One of my favorite places to have meetings is at is Albina Press and surely, you can see why. Isn’t this the most beautiful cup of hot cocoa that you’ve ever seen?! I was in awe watching them painstakingly craft this masterpiece on Wednesday.

Black Walls. I’m completely consumed with finishing the bedroom for Lee & I which is going to be matte black with white trim. Auntie Nubs spent an entire day helping me get the first two coats finished and soon we’ll be moving onto the all white trim. I’ve never had a black room before, but this was all the inspiration that I needed.

Friendly Skies. I found out about MJ passing right as I was finishing up packing for Reno. I didn’t have time to grasp that he was really, truly gone. Being on the plane up in the clouds gave me a chance to think about him. How can someone that always seemed so much bigger than life die so suddenly?

Hello, Reno. This is my reality for the next four days. It feels good to get away. I am here for my Grandma & Grandpa’s 60th wedding anniversary!!! Pretty amazing, huh? I love them to death. They don’t age. Both are 80+ years old, neither use a walker and they have more energy than us! I’ll take the secret elixir that they must be drinking and bottle it for us mere mortals.
I apologize for the lack of updates this week. It’s bound to be a bit quiet around here next week as well while I continue traveling and then finish my move. Thanks for understanding.
How was your week?

ugh. Moving into a new place and the black walls are dangerously tempting and seem to be a perfect backdrop for the numerous prints I have to hang. All I can think of is how many coats it will take for me to cover it when I have to move again!

That cup of cocoa is a masterpiece. How could you bring yourself to drink it?

I can’t wait to see your office/bedroom completed! & don’t worry about lack of updating, you’ve got shit to do girl! :]

Aunt Bronnie and I will see you next Sunday for more painting and fun. I love you!

That Reno photo is amazing! & your new place looks rad, I’m looking forward to seeing it one day! I’m so upset about MJ, king of Virgos, for real. You were the first person I tried to call when it happened. I’m kind of trying to work out what I could do to commemorate him & I’m really not sure, I don’t know, but I feel like I need to do something. :< xox

Maggie: I never did black walls in all of the rentals I’ve lived in for that reason. I’m only doing black now since I bought the house and don’t have to worry about the wrath of a landlord! Hee.
Sally: I didn’t want to. It was so damn pretty!
Liz: By the end of next week, I’m hoping to share my new office in its fully functioning form with everyone. It’s pretty exciting to be starting over with matte white empty walls, figuring everything out from scratch!
Auntie Nubs: I will always be grateful for all of your help! The black room will be the coolest by far once it’s finished. You’re welcome to spend the night any time!
Gala: We should do something in honor of MJ when we get together, like a themed photo shoot in NY with glitter gloves, bowler hats, sequins, everything. He was our special Virgo idol that made it okay to be eccentric, no matter what the media said.
Oh and Reno….this hotel we are at is totally INSANE. Never have I experienced anything this ridiculously glitzy and over the top, even in Vegas!!! You would love it. Everything is mirrored and gold and very very Liberace. Haha.

My grandparents had their 60th a couple years ago and are still adorable together. No walkers in sight for them either! Hoping I got those good genes.

I definitely thought of you & how sad I thought you’d be when I heard about MJ.
I was in a chatroom with some younger people and some people my age when I heard, and the younger people didn’t get it… how much a part of childhood he was for people who were kids when Thriller came out.

Love the black walls! My living room walls were black a couple years ago and I left the base, crown, window mouldings and fireplace white. I stole the idea from a French 1970′s interior design book.
If you’re in Reno you have to go to the Oceano restaurant at the Peppermill. It’s like a bad acid trip.

These photos are all so wonderful! I’ve always thought black walls are gorgeous, it definitely takes courage to actually do it though! Can’t wait to see all the finished photos.

You were the first one I thought of when I heard the news, knowing you were such a big fan. Sigh.
I saw the new Transformers movie twice this week & I had a blast! My luck overall is picking up, despite a long suspension at work (which should be part of the good luck shebang, actually, haha!) so yeah, I’m happy! I’m still thinking of how to celebrate my 7th tarot anniversary online, though.

I think the black walls with white trim is an amazing idea!!

It’s funny I think… I used to read/hear about teenagers always begging their parents to let them paint their bedroom walls black and I never understood it.
Now that I am WELL out of my teenage years I suddenly want nothing else but black walls.
Can’t wait to see more of your new place! x

Let’s do what he always wanted to create in this world – unite people.
Let’s meet and share memories, about him but also a place to make new friends as he would be proud of it.

Isn’t Oola amazing? I covet everything she owns. Good luck with the black!

Yes, yes, yes to black walls. The room below on craftster has haunted me for a long time. Why can I not have a few more rooms in my place to decorate? Red one over black this last round of painting, but now I’m rethinking!

the fact that your plane took off around the same time his soul was going to heaven or wherever is an obvious sign that you were meant to be with him as his soul passed.
