I'm trying to break into fashion illustration and design (I have a background and education in Fashion Design but went to work in a different field and now I'd like to make a go at my passion again). I've done a lot of examples, I'm working on my website and I'm posting on CL, without much luck. What is the best way to get business, especially steady business? I heard there are agents and agencies, especially in the interior design/ CAD field that will represent you and get you work. Do you know of any one and are you familiar with the process of signing up?
Thank you.

I'm loving the design advice posts you've been doing lately. I sort of pushed my way into a (sort-of) design job with about 0 experience, so this has all been incredibly apropos and immensely helpful. Thanks!

Mhaddy: It's tough sometimes and I've had clients that wouldn't accept anything than tons of insane Photoshop effects...on a logo.

Emma: 10 relates back to 2004 when I thought I knew what I was doing...and a designer called me out on it and basically said that the messy, overdone design that I was doing didn't really follow the rules of good design. I argued that I didn't need to know 'the rules' and he put me in my place! Haha.

cmykinky: It's funny now that large corporations are dropping the web 2.0 remnants of reflections and drop shadows from their logos including Pepsi and Coke. Collectively, maybe tastes are shifting back to simpler times once again.

Great list. I especially agree with number 5, but it just seems like everyone wants design that screams. It's totally sad, and completely unfortunate that 'regular' clients don't understand. All in all, great top 10!

I'm loving these posts, Nubby! :) I completely agree with everything.

Less is most certainly more, and I find that a 1-pixel shift with any design element can totally make or break the design (especially websites). Websites are all about how effectively negative space is utilized.

As for number 10, I am intrigued. :P

06 is something that took me a while to realize and something that can take a little bit of convincing to clients to understand! Great list, Nubby.
