I’ve never been strong in school, but I do believe that I was an underdog. I was one of the first people out of school to be approached by design studios, despite my good/average grades.

It’s about the work, not the grades. It’s also a matter of taste and how well you click with the person interviewing you.

Its amazing how perfect the timing and content of your quotes have been for me this week.
I have always worked hard and gotten good marks and I suppose started expecting to always get them but this week suddenly my results have gone down leaving me worried about what employers would think.

Thanks for the perfect quotes! This one especially has completely helped me to gain perspective.

OK Now I’m encouraged to suck in school. Thing is, not every tutor can be pleased and since when can art be graded into numbers right? I never got what the different beteween a 76% and a 77% was… what, a slightly longer stroke would’ve pushed me up to the 78% area?

Thanks always for the inspiring posts, I’m learning more and more about the Graphic design industry from your blog than anywhere else.

My grand uncle used to give me crap all the time about going to Nyu for film. He used to tell me he had “friends in the industry” who lied about by saying they hadn’t gone to college when applying for jobs in film. I think he thought I was spoiled. Ha.

Megan: Good grades are important, but a bad one isn’t the end of the world. At least that’s the perspective I kept throughout school!

Shini: You have a point. Design is so subjective! Sometimes getting a grade on a project seems like it’s defeating the purpose partially because in the real world, every client is so different and you never know what the feedback is going to be like.

Emma: So far, that’s been my experience as well. I think that it’s a good idea to go to school for design, but I don’t think that the school itself matters. I went to a community college and had an amazing experience.

Will: To each their own! That’s pretty funny….
