The Week in Pictures: 5.22.09

Don’t you love rediscovering things that you already own? I bought this red cross glass five years ago but never used it. It’s the perfect addition to my desk and adds a dash of Swiss-inspired design credibility (as it happily resides next to my Helvetica Moleskine).

The bookshelf directly behind my desk displays my favorite shoes. I’ve been snapping a bunch of photos of my office in its current state because it’s about to get a major shake-up.

On Wednesday, my friend of 10 years met me on Hawthorne for treats and window shopping. It’s always nice to reminisce with someone about the dreaded high school years you shared together.

The Bagdad Theatre on Hawthorne has one of the coolest signs in Portland…

Nothing beats getting a box full of amazing surprises in the mail, shipped all the way from Australia! Amelia Aresenic definitely did her homework and deserves major points for including an Andy Warhol card, a lips-shaped couch magnet, a pile of faux pills, a super cool pill keychain, one of the albums that she designed the artwork for (in red, black and white, of course) and best of all…A MINI MICHAEL JACKSON BOOK. The fastest way to my heart, hands-down is to give me something Michael Jackson related.

Pretty awesome, don’t you think?!

This book is an absolute must-have and has basically turned into my bible over the last few weeks.
How was your week?

You have no idea how happy it makes me that you’re a Michael fan. I’ve been crazy obsessed with him for years. Known as ‘that girl who likes Michael Jackson’ wherever I go =).
Also, I saw this book at my work today (I work in a bookstore) and it made me think of you. Pardon me if you already have it, or have mentioned it already:
ABC3D.
Glad to see another of your never-disappointing “Week in Pictures” posts.

I have that book! I got it two years ago for my birthday. I haven’t sat down with it yet, though. I’m still in school so I figure I have time.

Cool, Adrian Shaughnessy came to my uni and gave a lecture to us a few weeks ago, it was really good. He said he use to get a kick outta the fact he was a self taught designer and didn’t waste all that money at uni but in the past few years since he has been going into art schools to lecture he now regrets not going himself to learn and experience all the other creative people around and get the chance to experiment before getting into the real world etc.
I’d been meaning to read that book for a while, it’s on my birthday wish list for next week.
It was cute because quite a few of my classmates had it and brought it in for him to sign at the end of the lecture hehe my friends are graphic design geeks ^_^ x

I was in Portland last week visiting my sister; we had drinks at the Bagdad and played pool at Backstage for hours. Such a small world!

Carrie: It’s good to read before you’re done though because of the resource lists in the back and it gove you information on getting an internship and working through the creative process.
Shauna: You’re so lucky that you got to meet him! I didn’t realize that he was self-taught. Pretty damn impressive.

There are so many ChloƩ shoes I am obsessed with right now and those boots are one of them. Also, I love the mainly red, white and black color palette of your desk (and the rest of the photos). My week was fab b/c I received my vintage Chanel shoes I scored on etsy in the mail

I’m going to check out that graphic designer book, haha, even if I really don’t have what it takes just yet to actually be one.
Nice pictures you have there, as always!

that book is gold. I bought it during my last semester of school to help prepare me for the “Real world”, and it did. I found the interviewing part really helpful.
What was your favorite part Nubby?

I enjoy the rich color of your photos. It makes me want to jazz things up in my office. Those faux pills are a riot. Can you tell me the brand? They’d make a great gift for some of my pals
