The Typofiles #15

I adore vintage typography books. This type reference book from 1973 is by David Gates. Besides containing a glossary of basic type terms and examples, it also has samples of over 850 typefaces to peruse. Instead of being grouped by name, they are grouped by style category (serif, sans serif, old style, etc). This was especially helpful before the age of computers and font-based programs!

This is an awesome book! Do you have a good online source for old typography books?

Nubby- I was just in my layout/color/typeography class, and my instructor was google image surfing for calendars and landed on yours. So my whole class was looking at some Nubby design for a couple minutes
Thought you would enjoy that

Ooh that lime green book looks so nice on your rug.
I like that section showing the shapes of Trojan capitals, just those shapes would look cool and mysterious, it’s like a secret code!

First time commenter, long-time reader. Love your work.
Coming out of lurk mode to tell you, I have a vintage David Gates book called Lettering for Reproduction. I love it—it’s all about creating prepress lettering by hand. No digital fonts in sight. It’s got the same spiral-bound hard cover as yours, only the cover is black and the type is white.
Found it at a book sale a couple of years ago for a few cents.

When people are stuck with argumentative term paper composing, thus I would recommend to buy essay paper from some professional comparison essay service under such circumstances.
