What I Wore: 4.17.09

Okay, let’s get this out of the way right now. These jeans are from Walmart. I loathe Walmart with a passion, but one late night earlier in the week, Lee needed copy paper. And, I ventured into the wild fluorescent lit unknown with him. Then, I spotted my dream jeans…for twenty dollars. I had to have them.

No need for any “OMG Nubby, you were shopping at Walmart!” comments. I feel guilty enough (partially because I wrote a high school paper on their terrible business practices). But, I love these jeans. Walmart, it’s been nice, but I’ll be reverting back to my old ways immediately, wandering the aisles of Target once again…

Jacket, Wilson’s
Jeans, Walmart
Heels, Dries Van Noten
Tonal studded belt, F21

See. My philosophy is: I like it, I can afford it, it’s mine. I don’t give a f**k if I buy my stuff at Walmart, Saks Fifth Avenue or a tianguis. As long as I feel happy and comfy, I don’t give a darn about the rest.

I bought a funky pair of tennis shoes at Walmart when in there to get photos printed many years ago. It was just so easy to buy things like that when having to kill time there.

I personally don’t think there’s any shame in buying clothes from Walmart (or any other cheap chain store) as long as they look and feel good to you!

Wow, those jeans look great!
It’s funny how you can sometimes find cheap items that look as good if not better than expensive ones. I got a couple pairs of cheap shoes from Kmart that are great to wear and get plenty of compliments.

Wow–I can’t believe you found those at Wal Mart of all places! I rarely go in there, being a Target gal myself. But man–the most awesome things sometimes pop up in the weirdest places! They look awesome with your style, Nubby!

Thanks, everyone! You’re all awesome.

Ashley: I was seriously shocked to find something so cool there…and that they had so many pairs left! I’m sure you won’t be hanging them for very much longer. ;)

I’m older (50ish) so maybe I just don’t get it but I’ll be darned if I understand what’s attractive about those jeans. That said, the jacket and shoes look nice.

Who knew Walmart could have jeans so cool? Actually, you make the jeans look cool. On the general public they would look weird. Imagine the Midwestern housewives rocking them with their crocs and cartoon character t-shirts. Not as cool.

i don’t really dig on walmart as a business, persay ( i know they’re evil, blahblahblah), but, if you ever look at all my wiwt’s, a LOT of my stuff (especially basics) come from walmart. i tend to end up buying everything there, even if i feel a lil bad about it sometimes.

truth is, it someone makes something nice, no matter where it’s from, it’s worth it.

i also get a lot of fabric from there to make things!

They look great. The local Walmart is so bad that I’ve moved to Target. First K Mart fell, now Walmart. If you don’t live in a major city, you have to have a big box store.

Those are awesome effing jeans! Who cares if they’re from Walmart (although I feel so guilty whenever I buy even gum from there…ahh!).

I sent you an e-mail for a final project at school regarding your blog, and I really hope you get the chance to fill it out. If you can, thank you TONS! xx

haha i remember when you tweeted about this and i have to admit this jeans look cooler than i thought they would. at first glance totally thought you’d say these were kill city brand.

that tweet, and the shopping admission, inspired me to write “are you a walmart fashionista” on my blog: http://tinyurl.com/dls75b

I think people are missing the Walmart point!! It’s not about being ashamed of buying cheap things, it’s about supporting bad business practices with our dollars. Unfortunately, Walmart really misses the mark and has done a number of things to deliberately put small businesses out of business, to lower the quality of their wares (and label them with the same labels as higher quality wares,) bad union practices, etc etc the list goes on and on.

I hope that even the fashion-oriented can have compassion for workers and small businesses and see just how detrimental Walmart is to our economy and our quality of life.

Sorry Nubs, but you know I’m going to speak up!

That said, they are cute! But I bet you could make your own super easy from thrifted jeans, too!!

verhext: I totally agree with you. I’ve watched enough shows and read enough articles to know that Walmart is bad and news and that’s why I felt guilty! Won’t be going back for that reason.

hmmm my girl misa mi told me i should come back and clarify, which im also going to do on my blog, that i understand where you’re coming from when it comes to the ethical position of walmart.
i was not trying to knock anyone down for their beliefs but i wanted to tackle that tweet from a light hearted fashion point of view.

i got a pretty snarky email about what i wrote and how i was “dissing” nubby twiglet and truth it’s not even like that.

and one thing americans need to understand is walmart might be the crap for your economy but in countries like mine it’s actually looked at as a haven. if there wasn’t a walmart i am sure a lot of people here would be going broke/wouldn’t have the things they have. and when we come over there with just the sole purpose of shopping we’re not just giving our dollars to walmart. some trips a family can drop at least ten thousand dollars into america…not into our country but america.

you have some seriously devout followers but in no way do i have to tolerate being “a nubby wannabe bitch who is jealous”. le sigh.

dendoo: No worries at all! Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I don’t mind that you posted that article. I don’t think it was a diss; people need to have a sense of humor about the whole thing.

I personally don’t dig Walmart, but made a decision to purchase one item. I won’t be going back, but I am okay with the purchase that I made.

To each their own.

Wow, I’m getting major denim envy now. I was inspired to brave the trek to my local Wal-Mart and look for those suckers. Unfortunately, the chances of finding those jeans in a Canadian Wal-Mart are slim to none.

Do you have any idea what their exact title is? I feel like it would be easier to bust out my google skills if I knew the merchandise name and perhaps even the serial number.
