Back in 2007, I designed Fountain’s of Wayne’s
CD packaging for Traffic and Weather
. We’ve stayed in touch and they graciously invited me out to their show last Friday in Portland. They put on an awesome show, we goofed around backstage and then we went out for some more fun afterwards. A special thanks to Brent for going with me!
Fountains of Wayne has one of the most hilarious show riders in the business with requests that include a Ken Griffey Jr. poster and a live cat. All they got this time were some lousy print-outs…and, that ain’t Kenny Griffey!!!
Cold weather calls for desperate measures. Socks and sandals are sometimes totally necessary
Lee has been busy for days printing up tons of new merch for me. Posters, shirts and totes are stacked in my office and I hope to get everything up for your perusal over the next week!
I just put these two pieces of inspiration up on my bulletin board to remind me to keep my design clean, simple and uncluttered. Visual reminders can do wonders!

I’ve decided to start sharing some of the various typographic inspiration that I’ve collected over the years in a new Tuesday column called The Typofiles. Enjoy!
♥ This is a scan from a recent American Elle feature on Beyoncé.

What I wore:
Jacket, aryn K
Shirt, LA Made
Marbled jeans, Kill City
Purse, Miu Miu
Platform wedges, Marni
The Pearl District is pretty deserted at 11 am on a Sunday. It looks deceptively warm in these photos when in reality, it was super windy and freezing. Weather like this calls for a fashion faux pas like socks with open-toed platforms! These Marnis take awhile to get used to, but they’re surprisingly comfortable. Just watch your step…
A few weeks back, I posted a few images of my home office here. Here is a view of the rest, along with a list of where I sourced most of the contents.
What I wore:
Marching band jacket, Vintage
Scarf and leggings, F21
Boots, Dries Van Noten
I spent the first half of today recovering from a night out with Fountains of Wayne. The band invited me out to their show, shared their champagne and even strummed along to a few Journey songs for me backstage! Pretty amazing.
P.S. Guys, if you’re reading, sorry you got shorted on the live cat and Ken Griffey Jr. poster.
This has been a really quiet week, which is a very welcome change. I’ve been catching up on both work and sleep because things are about to get crazy again!
Last Friday, I tagged along with a bunch of Nemoites to design intern Tyler’s portfolio day at the Art Institute. Wow, that building is fancy! Once I walked up to his booth, it became apparent that I matched it a little too well. Either way, his portfolio was really, really good and has inspired me to rework my own.
I spent my free time this week pulling some new merch together. Look for this Bodoni design popping up on shirts next week! There is no deeper meaning…I just have a major obsession with the typeface. Look at those curves!
Fashion-wise, I’ve been leaning towards basic black everything
, especially accessories. I’ve realized that they can anchor even the silliest, kookiest looks!
Still on the black bandwagon, I finally caved and got a pair of super shiny black leggings. They are deceptively simple, yet still have a fetish-y, futuristic element to them. Hello, android!
