Back in 2007, I designed Fountain’s of Wayne’s CD packaging for Traffic and Weather. We’ve stayed in touch and they graciously invited me out to their show last Friday in Portland. They put on an awesome show, we goofed around backstage and then we went out for some more fun afterwards. A special thanks to Brent for going with me!

Fountains of Wayne has one of the most hilarious show riders in the business with requests that include a Ken Griffey Jr. poster and a live cat. All they got this time were some lousy print-outs…and, that ain’t Kenny Griffey!!!

Cold weather calls for desperate measures. Socks and sandals are sometimes totally necessary.

Lee has been busy for days printing up tons of new merch for me. Posters, shirts and totes are stacked in my office and I hope to get everything up for your perusal over the next week!

I just put these two pieces of inspiration up on my bulletin board to remind me to keep my design clean, simple and uncluttered. Visual reminders can do wonders!

How was your week?

Can it be? A Mouth With Pill tote? Yay! I was really hoping you’d do one of these!

I second Vixel… I’ve wanted one of those totes for ages!

That picture of George bush with the kitten is bizarre. Top marks to the promoters for actually sourcing those pictures though, they tried!

I love how Ken Griffey, Jr. turned Japanese and morphed into Ichiro Suzuki! haha!

Yee! That CD looks so cool! I love all the colour and stuff.
And you are so right – socks and sandals, sometimes a necessery evil!

woo can’t wait for you to put more merch up!
My week has been quite good, I had been worrying about the yearly progress interview with my tutors but it was fine! And on the way there the bus driver let me get on the bus for free because I had no change and neither did he! How nice is that!
Oh and there was another act of kindness this week, in a club my friend left her purse on the seat and a boy came looking for us to give it back to her, how nice, and he didn’t steal any of the money haha! It’s always good to be reassured there actually are nice people left in the world :)

Vixel: Yes! I did them for selfish reasons…mainly because I wanted one for myself! they’ll go up for sale early next week.

Amelia Arsenic: I guess you’re right…they get some serious points for effort! Plus, if what if they’d actually delivered a live cat? I mean, that’s not really something that you’d want to drag around on the tour bus!!

Kayla: I know! You throw in everything but the kitchen sink and then realize that the design would be so much better with much less.

Connie: Pretty funny! Obviously the promoters have a warped sense of humor.

Shauna: Your friend is so lucky! A purse is the equivalent of a girl’s security blanket. What a relief.

& that CD design looks fabulous, I love all the colours.

i love fountains of wayne! that is so cool that you designed their cd packaging. you did a fabulous job as it reflects what’s on the inside of the cd case as well.
