Fornasetti

nubby twiglet what i wore fashion style

Fornasetti is by far one of my favorite designers of plates and furnishings. Sculptor and painter Piero Fornasetti lived mostly in Milan and created an astonishing 11,000 items during his lifetime.

His plate designs are probably the most famous part of the Fornasetti empire. Nearly all of them have an eerily similar appearance. The face featured on most of the designs belonged to an opera singer named Lina Cavalieri. Fornasetti reportedly found her face in a 19th century magazine and used variations of it on over 350 plate designs!

You can find out more about Fornasetti on the official website and purchase items on Moss Online, Unica Home and Couture Lab.

Nubby: I got it when I was still living in England. It’s actually made quite well and holds up to the weather, unlike my Marc Jacobs umbrella that lasted like 15 minutes.

I really want the Adam and Eve plates..to do just that, hang them on my wall.

Oh my gosh, Nubby! These are wonderful! Ever since I moved to Chicago, I’ve been trying to kind of nurture a baroque mixed with a creepy, old-apothecary, Jekyll & Hyde aesthetic for my kitchen (which is… my entire apartment/where I spend most of my time) and these are PERFECT! I’m totally bookmarking those sites, too – I can never find interesting housewares!

    xoxoxoxo! Thank you!

    Hi!
I’m just wondering if you know where I could find the value of a Fornasetti piece. I have a circa 1950′s(?) flour container about 9 in. tall with kitchen utensils (hand painted). I’ve been trying for years to find out any background on this piece, but can never find anyone that knows anything about it. Most people I have asked online have basically ignored me. Can you help?
(I can send pics of the piece if you need them)
    Thanks!
    ~Jenn~

Jenn: Though I am a big fan of Fornasetti, I’m not an expert by any means on the history or pricing of particular pieces. Good luck on your search!
